Red Wing Shoes

My Chelseas needed their second resole. Sent them back to red wing and had a brown mini lug put on them. They came out great.

Yeah they oiled them up really good.

My moc toes have been through hell and back!

Awesome. I know RW are not on the scale of wesco and viberg but damn they make a solid product that you don't feel back about beating the snot out of.

And for that reason I will always love redwings!
On a side note I'm looking for a pair of rough out boots with a full leather sole… any recommendations? (Don't have to be RW)

RW makes a beautiful sand/tobacco rough out "Pecos" boot, but the suede variants are only available overseas. I'm sure someone would help you proxy a pair if you really like them
If you are looking for a more "Luxe" pair, you can't go wrong with having Giles build you a custom pair of Morrisons - that way you get exactly what you want.
The worst thing you can get is cheap suede, so make sure you invest in a pair with a thick enough hide so they don't get too thrashed too quickly.
The hides they use at Wesco are outstanding and super thick. They will last for decades. By skipping out on a Vibram sole (aside from heel) you will save a good bit going the custom route instead of buying a suede boot with a rubber sole and then paying 100+ bucks replacing it with leather.
If you don't mind me asking, why a leather sole? I wore leather sole Luchesee boots three years straight and ended up paying more for resoles (every 8 months) than I did on the boots themselves. Just an FYI.

Thanks for all the info Adam! Not sure I have the funds for a custom pair right now or for any pair at the moment but it's okay to scope out your next pair right?
As far as wanting a leather sole, I think is just because I've always loved the clean look and the "prestige" that comes with it. Or maybe that's all in my head. I've never owned a pair and I'd like to at least try them out.. I can always resole with a more durable sole when the time comes..
I've had my eye on oak street boot makers, grant stone, butts and shoulders, wolverine, and viberg but I don't think viberg has a leather sole option. Correct me if I'm wrong.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for the explanation Brock, it is true that a leather sole is a more classic look. I have some leather soles Justin AQHA square toes that are a dream to wear and have been extremely durable. It all depends on the sole. I would have thought the higher end Luchessee sole would have lasted longer but I did put them through a lot more abuse.
It's always a good idea to be looking around and knowing what you like so if the opportunity to snag a pair comes up, you already know sizes, the normal costs, etc.

My Red Wing 2966 arrived today, I spotted them when I was Amsterdam but couldn't justify shelling out for them there.
When I saw Standard & Strange had them stateside I ordered immediately and they arrived this morning.
These are my grail RW boots, here they are paired with UHR 634s, I think I may need to hem them now to show these off better.

Gave my oxblood Iron Rangers a clean and oil as they were looking a bit beat up.
I'm always pleasantly surprised how well these boots takes oil.
I replaced the stock laces with leather laces and even gave them a bit of conditioner. Really liking the look.
