IHJ-54-BLK - Japanese Horsehide Rider's Jacket with Collar - Black (Tea-Core Dye

Hey Brian! Thanks for the super well thought out post.
First off, the chrome tanned leather is sublime - you don’t have the weird smell that some veg tanned leathers have, and the color is very durable and uniform at first wear (a positive note of chrome tanned leather) and then breaks in with great character (the grain opens considerably) as you wear it.
For sizing, I wear a solid XL-XXL in nearly all my IH gear, snd wear a slim fitting XXL in the J-54. I will admit, the side gussets are exceptionally usable and if I did not have them, I’d have to size up due to the taper you speak about.
I do not notice the zips while
Wearing, and they are not obvious while
Wearing. I actually like the look of them
To be honest.Self edge and IHUK use different ways to measure, snd SE does not measure with new restocks every time, so IHUK measures will most likely be the most consistent, even with the changes to the SE version.
Hope that helps!
You will not be disappointed in the J-54 and the sheen wears away quickly after one or two wears in the rain another thing I appreciate about the chrome tan - it holds its own in foul weather.
Cheers and let us know how you get on with a jacket !

Ok. So it is seems that people are buying the same size as they do in UHF and other shirting and it likely helps to keep that slim profile and probably allows for a t-shirt or something light to be worn underneath. Then, as @Appfaff mentions, the size zippers are helpful and avoids some of the need to size up.
The sizing suggestion of XXL, for me, seems even better considering that I'd only be sizing up 1 from the SE model wearing an XL equivalent. He is said to weigh 200 lbs and with a chest of 41.5 and height of 6'2". The jacket he was wearing was 5 inches wider than his chest. I, myself, weight 22 pounds heavier, have a chest size of 44, and measure at 6'3" in height. The XXL with a chest at nearly 48 inches (approx. 4 inches wider than my own chest). The waist is an inch smaller across in waist compared to my IHSH-235 but I guess that's okay and perhaps I should some more time doing sit-ups so that it doesn't feel so slim or tight on me… Good thing there would be side zippers until I got to that point...
Getting the correctly sized clothing online is such a headache. Thank god that Iron Heart, and some others, have their easy-going return policies going else I'd be reselling high-end clothing at a loss with every-other-purchase.

I think you are on the right path..
I’m 6’2 and a large man- I’m 220-230lbs depending on the kind of beer sales my local grocery has going [emoji23] I also wear a 36-38 in IH pants/jeans.
My XXL UHFs are slim fitting snd I can fully zip my 54 over them as well as a T-shirt for a tailored but not skin tight look.
Hope that helps!
Here is a recent pic(s) of me in my brown one I literally just keep the sides unzipped so I can wear it in my truck lol :

Welcome @BrianA and good choice selecting the IHJ-54.
Another data point: I wear XXLs in the UHFs but size down to an XL in the IH leather jackets (54, 35, 49). I can't really wear it comfortably over a UHF but primarily wear lighter layers anyway - heaviest I usually go is like the 1301 or 1501. I'm a 43-44in chest and it looks perfectly fitted.
Regardless of sizing, I would agree with @Appfaff though and recommend the IH version with the side zips to give you more fit options. Nothing against the SE version (I own their 35 for the lining) but I've found the 54 to fit slightly more snugger around the waist so the side zips are nice to have.

@Appfaff, that actually was helpful. Thank you. Think we have similar body types. That jacket is developing very nicely. Looks the perfect length and fit.
@Manticore, seen your photo posts. The jacket looks great on you. Think I might be edging closer to the IH version.
Just gotta sell off some things I've not been wearing and then I can pick up this one. I won't yet call the IHJ-54 black my dream jacket but it has potential. Appreciate the prospect of not having to go "all in" with a custom jacket to own a high quality jacket that fits me properly.

The more time I spend on here (which is quite a lot,) the more I keep looking at this jacket…. the more I think about YOLO-ing my income tax refund into this jacket. It is coincidentally about the same amount as the price of this jacket. I think maybe it is a sign?
-
Definitely a sign. Frankly I'm surprised the IRS didn't just mail you an IH voucher instead.

Any idea of a restock on the XXXXL?

Hiii Guys !!! I'm new to this forum, i just own two Iron hearts products actually, the 526L still unworn and in my closet since 1 year with 6-7 others denim jackets from others brands waiting for my momotaro to be retired to start a new one, and here is the Selfedge edition i have received today, it looks maybe a bit small in picture, maybe due to the angle but i feel like its the right size for me, i just love it !!! Its comfortable with a tee zipped and unzipped, comfortable with a tee + light shirt unzipped, cannot wear a hoodie under it, i guess some will say +1 size would be better but i dont want to have extra long sleeves covering half my fingers ^^
-
I will only wear it for casual wear, not even sure i will wear it zipped, most part of the time i never zip anything, almost…
Here are maybe better shots from a better angle and not too close. I need to find a brown horsehide jacket now ::) Some recommendations ?
Looks perfect imo… Y'all fat bastards just jealous (including me)...
I was thinking exactly the same about you all for years before i took my credit card 2 weeks ago But i'm just kind of happy just watching you guys wearing amazing stuff without having the items for me and keeping in mind i could be on the other side one day

It looks too small in the front zipped shot. The width of your torso looks much smaller than the width of your lower body here. I can’t tell where your belt buckle is because of your t shirt, but it also appears that the jacket lies quite a bit above the buckle.
Other views look pretty good. But I would also size up one.
I’ve also got the self edge version. It’s not loose at all but I can easily wear it with a UHF. Also, the sleeves are designed to end a few inches past the wrist.

Ask 100 people and you'll get 101 opinions…
But I think it looks good, especially if just for casual wear and not riding. Mine fits the same way in terms of layers but you seem a bit taller than I so the jacket comes up slightly shorter. But still a great casual look!

The length is ok for me and the jacket cover 2/3 of the belt, i always wear my jeans a bit loose that's why, you are right about the upper part of the torso a bit tight on me, 1 inch more on the chest would have been great :o I will use this jacket as a kind of spring / summer jacket with tee's (summer is cool in France so leather can be ok) and the natural simmons bilt i have ordered today +1 size for autumn / winter with layers underneath (winter is not that cold in France so leather + hoodie should be fine), so things are settled Thanks all for your kind advices it helped me a lot to take the good size for my new jacket
