Watches - another OCD problem
-
Found an Omega AD a few days ago and tried these on. Really digging the Speedy
-
The black/black seamaster is a favourite of mine, very well executed. One of these watches that is difficult to photograph and looks better in person.
-
@Cole well done!!
-
@Cole they do have lume tho
-
@Anesthetist I know, but there are a lot of twilight scenarios (no, not the greasy vampire ones) where the lume does not kick in enough to make a black / black or black / grey watch readable.
My Seiko Shikamaru is a nightmare, even though I expect Omega to use a better lume on a 10 to 15x as expensive watch.
On the toppic of the Seamaster PO, that thing realy is a beauty. It wasn't the most reasonable decision to buy that beast, but I will certainly not regret it.
-
I could live with the black / black seamaster quite happily even with a compromised legibility point of view.
I really like how they have made the wave textured dial shine on the raised facets.
A very interesting watch. It is one I have been debating over for a while to add to the collection.
Without owning one it would be difficult to comment further on the 24hr legibility of the piece.
-
I am also a huge fan of the all black Matt ceramic Bulgari Octo Finissimo. Another watch where the legibility could be seen as compromised.
That particular finissimo has highly hands and hour markers to make the dial both subtle and readable.
Maybe I just have a thing for black black watches. Luckily these watches would not be a sole piece in the collection.

@Graeme I really like the new white dial Speedy, ticks a lot of boxes particularly the manual wind and display case back work really well together with no rotor to block the movement display. Would have been keen to see it with a steel bezel rather than black anodized aluminum one fitted.
-
Agreed on all points. The bezel on the SMP leaves me cold but both of these feature lovely dials.
-
Wow! That white Speedy is fantastic!
-
Had a big birthday last year so my beater is now a GMT. Current state of the small collection, but I am lusting big time after an Ultraman Speedmaster

Agree 10000% that white dial is special

Dead sexy

Tried on the Op41 celebration dial this morning. Again a "display only" piece.
I thought it was a fun watch. I did want the Turquoise blue dial OP but it got discontinued for this model. My wife has the smaller size Turquoise dial OP so thought it might be a nice complement.

I saw the Celebration dial in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago.
I've got mixed feelings about them. I love the use of colour on the dial, and the fact that it's slightly crazy for any watch manufacturer, but especially for one as conservative as Rolex. The problem is that the polished hands pick up reflections, and the bubbles break up the face, and that makes it hard to read. I think that if they'd used black, like on the Omega Speedmaster with the white dial, it'd have been clearer.
The other thing I saw was a Rolex 1908, which is a pretty watch. I wish they made it in steel rather than white gold, to make it more durable, but I do like it.
