@Filthy:
You planning on washing them in a machine ever? My last pair of UHR I soaked three times but I never washed them in the washer.
the more you wash, the better the contrast will be. from my previous pair, the contrast was insane. and I washed it 6 or so times during a 2 year stint
This comment is super intriguing to me, @louisbosco do you soak to wash or do you machine wash my friend?
-
I machine wash every time but I just do the jeans by themselves on a quick 30min cycle. Also, I’m a lazy fucker nowadays and even for initial soaks, I chuck them on a quick wash cycle without soap. I haven’t done a bathtub soak since 2013
That said, I’m just making assumptions that your washing machine allows for temperature selection. Mine could and that’s what I did

@louisbosco cool and yep, my washer has temp selection. That's what I usually do too. Thanks for the info.

This is what I usually do. For black denim I’ll pre soak just to prevent marbling but UHR fading definitely benefits from washing.
Cool, I am happy to hear that. I wonder if XHS is this way because with my latest pair, I have only washed twice with nearly 250 wears and the contrast, while nice with the whiskers and thighs, isn't as contrasty as my XHSbb in the honeycomb area, which has been worn about 100 times less but washed 9 times with much more contrast on the honeycombs. Hmm.. IS this the way?

IMO fades look better when they are the journey, not the destination.
Amen to that

@Oaktavia different types of denim are going to fade differently, something that you’ve experience washing or soak, with 1 denim, will come out differently on another. Just wear and wash when you feel like it.
Or even, stick to what you’ve been doing. Who knows, your outcome might be different to another in the same type of denim
