Hello! I’m traveling for a week to Valencia and Barcelona in late March. Wife and kid are staying in CONUS, so I get to explore, eat and relax to my heart’s content. Any recommendations on cafes, restaurants and shops? I’m planning on using public transport - trains, buses and trolleys. I’m not much of a beach guy. Definitely art museums, live music and food! I’m am especially looking for a top flight steak! And paella of course!

I can give you some advice from my last stay there last year, we'll be there again this year.
Our main goal was a Craft Beer crawl through town, and we found some decent places.
The downtown location of Garage Beer Co. is a must. Beer Cab was a good place. The Espiga Tap room close to the cathedral is also a recommendation. Freddo Fox is another one of the big names. Cyclic beer farm was a little crazy beer wise.
Blacklab right next to the harbor looked like a tourist trap, but wasn't. Bodega Fermin was a cool place, too. Arribadero was a good bar.Parc Guell is a must see, Sagrada Familia is extremely expensive. Regarding Art, Miro, Gaudi and Picasso are the big names. The maritime museum was good.
In general we stayed away from the tourist traps, especially the Ramblas at night. We managed to get a 5-day pass for public transportation, you can get that in advance online.
That's all I can remember from the top of my head...

my favourite place in Barcelona:
- La Plata (Carrer de la Mercè 28, https://barlaplata.com/)
other tapas bars I like:
- El Xampanyet (Carrer de Montcada 22)
- Ciutat Comtal (Rambla de Catalunya, 18)
nice little bar:
- Cala del Vermut, Carrer de les Magdalenes 12
if you're interest in architecture 'la sagrada famila' (and other Gaudi buildings) is a must
I agree with @tody 'Park Güell' is worth going up there
a good way getting around is cycling, there are bicycles for rent everywhere, and it's safe

Anyone been to Barcelona recently? Yes, I will be visiting Sagrada Familia and also might visit Camp Nou (a FC Barcelona fan here). Anything else should I consider? I am looking for things on Tripadvisor. I saw this thread and decided to ask here also. Any recommendations are welcome..

Sagrada Família is a must-see attraction in Barcelona, known for its unique architecture by Gaudi. Apart from this iconic site, Gaudi's other notable works like Casa Batlló, with its dragon-like scales, and La Pedrera, with its distinctive stone facade, are worth visiting. Additionally, lesser-known but equally beautiful buildings by Gaudi include Casa Vicens, Palau Güell, and Torre Bellesguard. When will you be traveling to Barcelona, @mhussy? I think your trip to Barcelona will not be complete without a soak on Barcelona’s city beaches that boast a 5km stretch of coastline.

@danyhearty Thanks for the information. Yes, I have pretty much sorted out my plans. Casa Batllo, Sagrada Familia, Barcelona Cathedral, Piccasso Museum, and Camp Nou I will be visiting. I read their official travel website: https://www.spain.info/en/destination/Barcelona/ and another article I found online: https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism-in-spain-statistics-2024-your-in-depth-travel-guide-5686 These two articles pretty much sealed the deal for me. Also, the suggestion I got from an older comment in this thread.

@mhussy - I don’t know the current status, but the Camp Nou is currently be rebuilt, and Barça are playing home games at a different stadium in the city. Might be worth checking what the tour will and will not currently involve.
-
I would check out eating at Bar Canete, Batea or Besta. All very highly recommended.

@Nocturama I have checked their website, and they are still selling the tickets. I am assuming they are still doing the tour.

Picasso museum was in the alley in the 1st picture.

@ROman I love La Flauta! I think I ate at another location — there are two if I recall correctly. My girlfriend at the time and I just happened to stumble upon it, and the food was among the best we had on that trip (frankly I liked it as much as Tickets). I think we were the only tourists in there, great local spot. I wanna go back!

Oh and if you're still there, I highly recommend SlowMov coffee in the Gracia neighborhood (that's where I'd live in my fantasy Barcelona life).
