Jacques Marie Mage (JMM) - Sunglasses and Frames…
-
Zephirin 47 landed at Queen City Optical and should have the prescription filled in a couple of weeks. I picked up some silver G15 clip on shades from JMM months ago when I ordered these from a trunk show.
While I was there…
Mad scientist vibes
Genuinely love the aviators

Got em back with a perfect multifocal prescription. So far I’m feeling the contacts can be relegated to sports activities and the like. Favorite eyeglasses of ever and I can’t say enough positive things about Queen City Optical Provisions. Including that my optometrist was wearing Iron Heart jeans during my exam.

@mclaincausey They really look great on you and I especially like the metal frames and are wondering how they compare to your other frames. Same quality, fit, and finish?
-
Thanks!
Their metal frames are a sight to behold in the flesh. Those aviators in the bright gold are very tempting, but I’m so happy with my Walkers and love that they feel less vulnerable to the violence that befalls my possessions from time to time. I tried on the smaller metal frames for the heck of it. I don’t think they work for me, but they are gorgeous and the fact that they rest on the bridge instead of the sides of the nose is appealing to me since I have a crooked schnoz that is prone to hotspots of glasses aren’t perfect. The Walker’s thickness and shape is perfect in that regard.
The prescription are acetate but the clip-ons are titanium with mineral glass lenses. They are milled out of I think 10mm blocks but Zephirin 47 is definitely less chunky than some of the other frames, yet still beautifully sculpted and astonishing to hold and handle. So far, these seem to be doing fine on my nose, but if that changes I will have them adjusted.

Like @mclaincausey, I got to try on the Jacques Marie Mage Burn a few weeks ago. This pair had the lenses popped out, and I quite liked them.
I was more interested in the ICU. I'd been considering the Ringo 2, but these are a tempting alternative.
Sorry about the poor images. I dropped my phone in SF a couple of months ago and cracked the glass over the selfie camera.

I like them both on you, especially the round ones @Graeme
-
@mclaincausey Thank you very much for your thoughts. One of the main reasons I like the JMM’s is that they fit so well and I don’t have hotspots when wearing them for extended periods. I worry about the metal frames and how they sit but your write up has put my mind at ease.
@Graeme Thank you for the pictures! Do you feel the same about the JMM metal frames regarding fit and finish?
I’m on JMM’s emailing list and receive multiple emails per week with release information. There have been quite a few metal frame releases that have intrigued me, but I was hesitant because of my worries. Truly appreciate your thoughts and pictures.
Thank you gentlemen!

@goosehd the JMM metal frames are lovely. I think that the beauty tends to be in the detailing, as they often have neat touches such as the shape of the hinges. They also tend to have quite deep rims which helps if you have an awkward prescription like me. Take a look at the macro shots of the ICU on their website as an example.
If you want a comparison, look at the Ahlem Place Coluche, which is almost identical to the ICU. The details aren't quite as good, though they're another pair that I'm considering.
@mclaincausey thanks, I'm probably going to get that round pair over the Ringo 2. I'm looking at grabbing another so I have a spare.
You might also be amused that you can see my Defy Verbockel in the mirror in the lower left corner of this photo.

Nice @Graeme I am using mine on this trip as I do all of them. It’s a fantastic bag. The only thing I’d probably change would be side laptop sleeve access but that would compromise the waterproofness so easy to live with.
-
@mclaincausey mine is the older, more basic model. I haven't used it too much in the last few years as it's quite big and heavy (I've got the waxed canvas version), but since my denim rucksack died and went to jeans heaven, it's come back into service.
I think if I was getting a new one, I'd go down a size. But I do like the bag, and it's perfect for a carry-on, at least when they don't weigh them!

A Blue Note collab??
Just love this Herbie Hancock model and colorway.

I had an expensive lunchtime. I'm working in Melbourne and my local JMM
dealerpusher sold me a pair of the silver ICUs…I was taken advantage of as well. I went to dinner with my brother as we walked by the optometrist I was I forced to buy these….

There should be laws against optometrists taking advantage of innocent passersby and forcing them to buy expensive frames!
That said, your new frames look good @Anesthetist.

I forced to buy these….
