IH-634S - 21oz Selvedge Denim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
@Bluegrass - yeah, I figured I need to own the Flagship model in the flagship denim. Been wearing a lot of 9" leg opening jeans lately, so if I size the top block snug, I think the silhouette will be great for me still.
-
Ok. Decided my next Jean purchase will be these for spring/summer.
To help sway me between the 35 and the 36, anyone drop 1 size below their normal IH size on these?
I'm sure there are, just asking for advice.

The 21 oz is easy to stretch, more so than any other IH denim, I'd estimate. You should be able to drop a size without problem.
I bought my default size in these, though, so discount my opinion as you see fit.

I usually get 36s in IH gear, but it's because of my thighs. THighs in a 35 should be fine and a stretch to 36-36.5 would be ideal, which I saw easily on my old 301s.
I'll see how the tax man is to me in the coming months and see what happens haha

@Appfaff I always buy my normal size in the 634s and in my case it is snug and stretches to a comfortable level. I would be miserable if I sized down. I'd look closely at the measurements - as you know well, sometimes the waist sizing is more generous than others. You said you wanted a ~9" opening, that would be a 34 or 35 in the 634S - if you can squeeze in one of those you might be happy.
By the way, seeing that video got me to bust out my 634S today, and I got re-acquainted with how much I like this cut and this fabric. Get the cuff just right and length, and it is so good. I don't like wider leg jeans/chinos worn too long. Plus you show off your fine boots!

I agree - probably the best cut for showing off the wescos!

@Appfaff I sized down on my 634s 21oz and unfortunately it doesn't work for me so I would not recommend it. Of course everyone is different but just my two cents. After about 6 or 7 washes I can still easily button them and fit in to them but they are just too snug in the top block and thighs to move around comfortably. I could probably easily wear them and stretch them out but I'm not in that camp. I like my jeans to be comfortable and to require little to no stretching. I like my waist and thighs to fit comfortably loose out of the bag. I like to be able to squat in them comfortably. I can't do that with these.
I wore mine for about 9 months back when I first got them and they are actually looking fantastic as far as fades and wear go, but in that time I've made some more gains in my glutes and quads so that combined with the little bit of shrinkage that's occured from washing has made them too snug for comfort.

thanks for the feedback @manufc10 - i think JNCOs would be the only jeans I could actually squat in haha

Just a general soak / wash question on the 634S.
I never did an initial soak… the jeans fit vert well from the get go. I've started wearing them to work and one night they got very muddy so I thre them in the wash, and have done once again for stank purposes. They do shrink a tad and then after a few days of wear go back to pure lovliness. Is there a point in doing a soak now or in the future?
Thanks
Joe

Just wash them whenever they get dirty or stinky.

Will do. Just wanted to make sure there was no need to soak now. Washing will be fine then.

With the exception of an initial soak, as described on receiving them. I tried the soak deal once, but after that, I wash them as I would any jeans I have ever owned, with the exception of using cold water, and low spin. I wash them a bit less than I would have other jeans, but way before they get stinky. I don't really understand the multiple soak thing. I just wash them. And most just air dry. That's just me.

Oh I didn't mean literally do squats at the gym lol…I meant squatting down as in everyday squatting like to pick something up off the ground, pet the dog, tie your kids shoe, etc...
lol i knew what you meant haha.
It would be nice to have a pair of jeans I actually could squat in though… i hate having to wear sweatpants to work on back squat day when i know i'll need to spot people on heavy reps.
*yes, I realize complaining about wearing sweatpants to work is perhaps the most First World problem ever.

Hi all, new to IH but I decided to start with this model as the signature jean before I start wandering into other fits/cuts/weights/styles/etc. Since I'm coming from a lifetime of wearing $40 jeans this was quite the step up. The 21oz is just ridiculous but it is starting to succumb to my will and I am beginning to understand why people say they are so comfortable. I look forward to getting MUCH use out of these.
And those $40 pairs just went in the donation bag.

@Manticore just wait until you wear them for like 6 months. They get unbelievably soft. I also like the iridescent sheen the denim has in the sun.

Thanks. They are already starting to get softer so i can't to get more time in them. I actually just dropped them off at SELA yesterday to get hemmed so eagerly waiting for them to be finished.
