IHM-37-GRN - Oiled Whipcord N1 Deck Jacket - Army Green
-
Hey guys,
Just ordered a size medium of this jacket from Self Edge and beginning to think I should have ordered a size large.
I have a 39" chest but broad shoulders. The modified type 3 I have is a large and fits perfect. It's measurements are:
Shoulder: 18.5
Chest: 22.0
Sleeve 25.7
Waist 20.0
Length: 25.4What do you guys think?

@Chibs my N1 is the same size as my type iii’s so maybe you should have gone with a large? Saying that, a few forum guys do size down an N1 to wear fitted over a t-shirt so you may still be good
just depends what look you are after.

Okay, so I called 2 self Edge locations. One in NY and one in San Fransisco. Both gentlemen I spoke with pretty much agreed with you and said I goofed ordering medium.
So I emailed and got em to send me their last size large instead! I think that's what they're sending.Hopefully it fits. So tough buying online and not direct from iron heart. Very excited though!! I didn't want to wait a year for IH to get stock back in. It's -10° C right now and I just want my new N1 life to begin now!! haha

@Chibs very glad to hear you got it sorted out and congratulations! You will love it, the IH N1’s really are something special..

@Chibs i think i bought the last one in Large yesterday. Did you received confirmation for your exhange?
I just verified I'm getting a large! Maybe they had 2 left?

So I got my size large today. What do you guys think of the fit?
I think I maybe could have actually gone with a medium but then would have had much smaller shoulders and not as much mobility in the arms. Not sure though, didn’t have any way to try these on before ordering. Bailey from Ironheart told me to get a large as well as 2 Self Edge employees & you guys, so I listened.
Couple of thoughts.
The wool is soft and not at all itchy. I love the collar popped, It’s much better than wearing a scarf. Buttening the latch is awkward. Maybe I have to get used to it or perhaps I just won’t.
The pockets are amazing. Deep enough to put my iPhone pro max (including the inside pocket too) and no worries about anything falling out if I don’t click in the snaps.
The army green is an awesome colour in person. Really smitten with the dark brown wool accent and how it pops off the green.
It’s warm!! I wore a thin long sleeved tee underneath and was totally comfortable outside in +3 Celsius. Not sure how it will do in negative temps but this jacket is definitely large enough to get my thickest sweaters on underneath. I tried a Patagonia Better Sweater underneath and had perfect mobility. The arms are long! I think the shoulders look good and the overall length is great. The zipper is so overbuilt, I don’t even think I have as chunky zips on my luggage. The large silver hardware adds to the military-ness and just looks so cool. 2 way is nice for sitting in the car.
I ordered from Self edge - San Francisco and I asked them to declare lower value so I don’t get hit too hard with Canadian customs. They didn’t and I ended up paying 175$ extra
Oddly enough they left this weird brush in the inside chest pocket.
Not sure if this was intentional (if so, why?) or someone who tried on / returned the jacket left it in there on accident?
Overall though I’m happy with the jacket. Got so sick of wearing Canada Goose parkas & puffer jackets. I actually bought a Filson Mackinaw cruiser at the beginning of winter but it turned out that wasn’t near warm enough. This N1 is much toastier and looks really good!
On top of that, my wife and both kids gave the N1 thumbs up. That’s almost unheard of in my experience.
So thanks for your help guys! -

I think I maybe could have actually gone with a medium but then would have had much smaller shoulders and not as much mobility in the arms.I think this looks like the correct size in the shoulders, and a medium could/would have been too small there. I think it looks like you have a little too much room in the sleeve length, though this should ease with wear as creases set in the arms. It also looks like you're just wearing this over a tee, and if you layered a shirt under it too, it may fit 'better' overall.
Oddly enough they left this weird brush in the inside chest pocket.
Not sure if this was intentional (if so, why?) or someone who tried on / returned the jacket left it in there on accident?I am afraid it is not the former, so probably the latter...

Thanks Alex,
I'll try it on with a flannel or sweater underneath and see if it makes a difference. Definitely going to get my next Ironheart piece locally or direct from you guys! This was a "learning experience" but I don't regret it at all. -
Hey guys,
So it’s cold and very windy out today so time to see if this could stand proper Canadian winter weatherIn this climate I could go with my warmest Canada Goose parka and a t-shirt and be toasty. Or go with my less warm / lighter Canada goose parka and a thermal and be good as well.
The weight of the N1 is about the same as the lighter (navy) parka. But obviously not nearly as baggy.
So I wore my Uniqlo ultra warm long sleeved T-shirt underneath and went with Mrs Chibs to walk the dog.
Once I buttoned up the collar, I was completely fine! About as warm as I would want. It was really windy (that feels like -21 with wind chill was pretty accurate) and my wife was complaining the she could feel it through her Canada Goode parka. Not through my N1 though. I don’t know if it’s that extra layer Ironheart puts to block wind or the fact that this N1 is oiled (or both?) but it works very well! If it were much colder I’d probably throw on an other layer and be totally fine still.
I wavered between a medium and large some more (after that last post) but decided to stick with Large. I like the extra room I can use for layering and not totally sure but feel the medium would be a bit too snug in certain areas. Not sure I’d even be able to button that collar up around my neck because the Large just fits in this regard.
An other win from Iron Heart. My only regret was not getting direct from Ironheart at the beginning of the season. This is an awesome winter jacket!!
