2017 Musings, 2018 Dreaming

A short term thread for folks to share their thoughts on the year past, and their hopes for the year ahead…..
From an Iron Heart perspective I think it’s been an awesome year for the brand and the forum. The brand has seen some of its best collections to date, with some incredible original designs and fabrics, as well as the return of a few old favourites. I’ve taken enormous personal pleasure from how well the 888 cut has been received, to see it come to fruition and to be able to wear it daily from those early beer fuelled discussions last New Year with @Giles and @Chris has been fantastic.
The forum has also gone from strength to strength, earlier in the year it seemed to be getting a little stale but in the second half of the year we have seen newer members stepping up and becoming forum fixtures as well as the mod team receiving an injection of new blood and enthusiasm. On a personal note I take great pride in the fact that the forum remains a real community where people can bust each other’s balls without malice, like real world friends.
Speaking of real world friends, @Giles birthday afforded an opportunity to catch up with old friends, some of whom I cannot believe I have now known for so many years (I’m looking at you Padmore’s @Alex , @rocket , @chris , @swiss-jeansfreak , @Graeme and @trail and arrow ), and to make new friends too such as @neph93 and @UnTucked . It was also amazing to finally meet some people who I have spent a long time conversing with, but never had the pleasure of meeting, such as @louisbosco , @Cole and @ROman
The whole Kanreki weekend was exactly what I’d expect for an event organised by the incomparable @Madame Buttonfly , perfectly timed and a lot of fun for everyone who attended or observed the celebrations through the forum, and flawless display of the esteem in which @Giles is held (for some unfathomable reason).
Looking ahead to next year I’m eagerly anticipating a Spring meeting with my arch nemesis/ man I love like an estranged brother @Seul , over beers and bacon. Then later in the year I’ll hope to meet up with a few SoCal based members of the Iron Heart Army in Los Angeles, I need to break the news to @seawolf that Mrs Seawolf has agreed to spend a day at a theme park with us on his behalf too, so he gets first shift on the biggest roller coasters.
Thank you one and all for making this such a great year for Iron Heart, for keeping this community strong and for making this about so much more than clothes. Here’s to more of the same in 2018 !!

Nice one @Megatron1505 - I can't believe that 2017 has gone so quickly, doesn't seem like nearly a year ago we were celebrating your birthday with the Trons and Chris plus family on New Year's Eve 2016! Do keep us posted on your US visit plans, I am desperate to visit San Diego for the first time and @seawolf has (very foolishly) offered to host us when we finally visit!
It has been absolutely fantastic to catch up with so many of our wonderful IH family during 2017, and I feel extraordinarly grateful to all those who made the effort to come - some from such a distance - for the Kanreki weekend.

Beers 'n bacon?.. I'm a teetotalling vegan come 2018… Tofu and bottled feckin water for you...
Bollocks :D@Madame:

We’re in tourist-ville (Orange County) between August 20th and 30th @Madame Buttonfly , and I would pay money to see @Giles at a theme park

The pics of @Madame Buttonfly's face on the roller coaster with no seats in Bush Garden's is the funniest of the lot, from memory

Well said @Megatron1505.
This past year has indeed been a great one from an IH standpoint. I've only been following/part of the brand for roughly 3 years now but it never ceases to amaze me how the brand always stays fresh and innovative yet classic at the same time. Those are the things that have drawn me here and that will ensure the longevity of this brand. As Mega stated this year had some fantastic releases and the new 888 cut is genius so kudos to all involved with it's creation. I'm always excited to see what is around the corner from IH.
I'm truly honored and flattered to be a part of the team here. Even though I did not make it out to the Kanreki weekend I still feel I have made some new "virtual" friends here…although I'm pretty certain you guys do actually exist ;). I'm sure there will be events and meet ups in the future that will give me an opportunity to meet the IH family.
The addition of the SoCal location is great news. It's proof that the brand is growing and the fact that I'm right "next door" to it is exciting for me. I'm very optimistic about the direction IH is moving and look forward to many more years and dollars spent being a part of this amazing brand.
Thanks to everyone in the community for keeping this alive. I truly believe it is one of the many key factors that sets this brand apart from all of the others and truly makes this a living, breathing thing. And of course many many thanks to every single member of the IH crew from top to bottom for their dedication and hard work. You guys are truly top class.

We have loads of pics, see what I can find tonight…...

I'll agree with @Megatron1505 that the Kanreki was great, I got to meet a bunch of the reprobates that hang around here, and it gave me an excuse to replace gear that didn't fit with a few things that do.
I missed out on a few bits that I liked this year, due to being generally broke. Then there are things that I like (the denim peacoat, the denim deck jacket) that wouldn't work in the Australian climate.
Fortunately the horsehide Type III is still available. I need a job.
As for next year, I've got my eye on the Mountain Parka. I think that'll be ideal for Melbourne's winter.
The meetup in California next year is tempting. My brother is in LA, and I haven't seen him for years, so it might be an excuse to head over there.

aww. the pleasure is mine @Megatron1505
the kanreki has been the highlight this year as it gave me the excuse to go back to the uk for a holiday since 20 years ago. right when @Madame Buttonfly mentioned it at the end of 2016, i knew it was all or nothing and boy am i glad i went.
Huge thanks again to her for organising the event and i remember how enthusiastically she was looking forward to planning it when we were in Rayong. it was amazing that i got to meet the bulk of you boys from europe and america. (in no favourable order) @rocket @trail and arrow @Chris @UnTucked @neph93 @Alex @Cole @swiss-jeansfreak @Adam @Winchy
it was nice getting up for the karaoke with steffen and chris as well. what a night to remember.
now.. 2018… you mean there's a soCal meet up?!?! why have i not heard about this? well, anyway my plans is to head to NYC by late fall early winter. this is my personal target and goal i've set. As much as i'm an anglophile since high school with the british bands and music i listen too, NYC has always been a dream and if possible would love meeting up whoever's on the east coast of the USA.
although i'm pondering heading back to the uk because i miss the bunch of you guys. and i'm too in love with england
-
Looks like there are two SoCal meet ups @louisbosco , the first one early in the year where you get to hang out with all the important folks at Iron Heart, and the one in August where you get to drink beer with me and whoever else I can drag out to Rock n Brews in Buena Park
-
hmm… don't think i'll be taking my chances with you.. :-\
-
Probably a wise move
-
maybe you should come to new york. sounds better when you're taking your chances with me
