Things That Make People Stop and Ask
-
Where did you get that? How did you find it? What is it made out of?
Every once in awhile, I get something that make people stop and start talking to me. They'll just pull me over on the street, or perhaps it's the front desk girl where I get my hair cut, or the coffee girl at Oren's…usually it's a random girl...
For me, the most recent ones have been
SelfEdge Feather Ring w/ Gold Fill
IH Melton Wool Shirt
Imperial Kings (1+ yrs of wear)
Red Wing Gentleman Travellers in Black Cherry with a top layer of Black polish I put on myselfWhat clothing based conversation starters do you guys have?
I've leaving out my Motorola Droid as a conversation starter since it's kind of off topic for this forum

Good thread idea. Usually, it's my glasses: Alain Mikli. They are funky.
My target for being well-dressed is that people recognize that it is good stuff but not exactly how good or how expensive. If I did get stopped all the time, it would certainly bother me. So the clothing I choose is usually so subtly different that "normal" people don't really notice or don't dare to ask. I am flattered when people in the fashion business ask, though, and they usually do. Happens mostly with shoes and jackets.
I like the glasses as a conversation starter. The social networking factor of such a conversation starter is not to be underestimated.

Great thread DougNg. I was in Hollywood, LA (Griffith Park) with my Mom last year in May and a woman went goo-goo over my IH-1634s. She wanted to know ALL about them, such as cost, where I bought them, size, how I care for them…And I gave her all the info she needed. That's the one and only time a stranger ever approached me about IH stuff.

I checked the website. Had never heard of that particular brand, though. Thanks!
I know the mechanism from IC! Berlin. Wonder if they are connected.
My sturdiest glasses are pair of gunmetal color Titanium glasses from, brace yourself, Wal-mart! I had some Zeiss glass lenses put in there. They live in the car so I always have a pair ready. The only problem is that they are so light and comfortable that I forget to take them off when I get out of the car.
I have had two people comment on my IH jeans after I told them about them. They touched them and both (pretty and very smart girls with exquisite taste) ridiculed me for wearing them. One said "Why would you wear a carpet?". They said they didn't feel good and were too stiff. They did like the fit though. We didn't talk about price because at that point I would have lost any esteem, I guess.

Till, you're too funny ! Seriously, though – every single human in my life thinks I'm a complete moron for spending $400+ on jeans. Nobody but nobody understands. That's why I joined this forum -- for sympathy and understanding ! My Mom thinks I'm stupid as well, but at least she agrees that IH jeans look fabulous on me.

Getting slagged for spending a chunk of change on jeans is quite vexatious really. I mean, the same person dissing you for frivolous denim purchases probably wont think twice about spending the same on: bullshit car modifications/nose candy/shoes made from string and chinese childrens tears/lifestyle groceries - delete as applicable.
As they say around these parts - jog on tosser.

My apologies for "forking", as they say in Computer Science (starting a new topic within a topic). But hectic, I so-o agree with you. I don't even bother responding to these nay-sayers. I don't spend $$ on vacations (the London/Paris trip was a gift from Mom), eating out, drinking, facials, spas, makeup, redecorating, cars, bikes, etc…You get the idea. Aside from IH, I live a pretty humble life !

Almost always it's one of my many jackets that draw the comments mostly good, a minimal number of times ridicule and quite often awe.

People have been proposing marriage over my new IHSH-08 Black Denim Western Shirt and IHSH-17 Lined Chambray Western Shirt. Seriously, I'm complimented constantly when I wear these [and I've been wearing NOTHING BUT these 2 shirts since I've received them….I alternate between them, day in, day out -- this is ridiculous so I bought two more IH shirts yesterday] ! People always stop to touch and feel the shirts. It's a bit awkward at times but these shirts are so striking that people can't help but notice ! A colleague of mine started "feeling me" in the middle of the company cafeteria yesterday, like, in front of the executives – it was totally innocent but his hands couldn't help it, he wasn't even aware he was doing it ! He was ooh-ing and aah-ing over the IHSH-08 Black Western shirt ! Guess who this guy was ? "Greg" of dragginjeans lore ! I told him, Greg, if you want this quality and beauty on YOUR body, you gotta pay for it man !
