Are you a RAW (STF), Selvedge, un-sanforized loyalist ?

@simon626:
One last question: do i buy the jeans in the size 30" or the size 28"?
My waist measures 31".
Thank you thank you thank you! All of you.
Go with the W30. Just wondering why not the IH-634S?
-
Totally understand! The FH should be a great pair for you. Also, did you mean the 1005?
-
@simon626:
i've never soaked my jeans before for any reason besides extreme dirtiness.
What's the significance behind "presoaking" and/or soaking?
Simon, come on buddy. You gotta do a little research. This should help explain a few things…

Also check out this thread till started…

TFH jeans are, compared to IH jeans, unsanforized, that means they will shrink about 10% when they touch water! If you don't presoak them and the fit is spot on, they won't fit you any more after you wash or soak them the first time. Keep that in mind when choosing the size.
Yeah, and a little research wouln't hurt, Lando is right.
-
Simon - Just soak them for 30 - 45 Minutes Inside/ Out. Hang dry until damp. Wear them until dry to set creases and you are ready to go!
-
@simon- dude, you're gonna have the dopest jeans in LA, until we do an IHF trip of us Bay Area folks down to the new self edge opening in LA… then you'll be taking a breather bro. hahahaha. jp, you made a decision you will never regret.
@shubzz- though i feel that my samurais, at 19oz, are killer and really damn near indestructable, the feeling of a nice 13.75-16 oz jean just really allows you to have a bit of a lighter feeling when moving. but also, legs sweat a ton in heavy denim. i'll give you a full blown comparison when i finally do decide on getting me the 634s
-
@shubzz- really??? i find jeans + any sun MORE than enough to warm me up (except if there is heavy windchill) you should try a pair of fh's or sams, they have a crunchyness that is pleasing to the denimhead. lol
@simon- see how the jeans fit before you plan your day of soaking man. never go into a situation blind and be scared to adapt. if they fit big, hot, tight, cold and if they have a little room, warm. there is no real method, just do it and dry it. and what did you do on your first day in your 301s? do that again. there is no need to do special rituals or anything. I mean, i know what you are saying and i think its cause this is still kinda new to you and because you are young (i say this in terms that if you do something to the jeans that is irreversable, lets say, shrink it too much, you arent in a normal position to drop another 300 for a new pair…i've been there so that is what i am also basing this on, but have fun man, just do it, like nike, except better quality
-
^ hahaaha, you should go to melrose and have all the guys who think they are the shizz gawk and cream when they see ur jawwwnzzz like skiddoush!!!!

I was just flipping through kiya's editorial rant against unsanforized denim in the Self-Edge Superfuture thread. I have no desire to join that madness, so I am posting here:
Kiya, you know what has worn out faster than my "weak" 23oz unsanforized denim? The fuck!ng chainstitch your employees put on my hem.
I could say a bunch of sh!t against his flippant claim that sanforized denim will inevitably last longer than soaked, unsanforized denim, but time will tell and the IHForum doesn't need the drama. Given the way he still mis-measures the products he sells on his webpage, I don't really care what he thinks, he's just trying to create excitement for his new stuff. But he has no authority to make claims of this magnitude based on his own manipulated opinion. There is no available information that supports his position on durability. Sanforization shrinks the fabric. Wear, weave, weight, construction quality, and age are what determine the life span, not heat+steam+big metal/rubber rollers (the sanforization process).
I would ask Haraki to graciously provide some perspective on the durability of his unsanforized denim.
Here's my own manipulated opinion: Kiya is the Paula Deen of the denim industry.
Edit (For those who felt this should go in the SuFu thread): I am not a SuFu member, nor will I ever be, so if anything gets posted from me it gets posted here. And since I was asking for Haraki's specific feedback, posting here is relevant. Kiya is on this thread and so are several other Self-Edge customers, including myself and I don't care if he sees it or not. Giles sells unsanforized denim to people in America and all over the world, and so do other retailers, so when Kiya starts shitting on other peoples products in order to hype up his own, it should be noted everywhere. To have one of the figureheads of Japanese selvedge in America start relaying polluted information about products that cost hundreds of dollars is an insult to all of his customers who are trying to make the best decisions possible about their clothes. Why does nobody care about the truth?
And @ Shoreman: I don't think my remarks are anymore inflammatory than your post in the Two Feet Ahead thread saying you're not impressed with the socks that you intentionally bought too fuckin small.

Not that I have an opinion on the actual content of this post, but if you're going to make such inflammatory statements, you might as well do so in the actual thread where the comment was made that incited this reaction.

Yeah, I am not sure he will see this here. You should post in the actual thread/ forum where the comment(s) were made. But yes this is "Random Rants" so I guess you were right for putting it here. Just an odd approach IMO.

Thanks for the update sir. I do hope Kiya reads this and responds.
Also, any chance I can get a link to said comments?

I don't hide behind the notion of not being a member at a particular forum to protect myself from the public scrutiny of those that matter. If you don't care, like you blatantly stated, have the balls to make your remarks in the appropriate place and or contact the intended person directly. I made my comments in the "Two Feet Ahead" thread on the forum operated by the store I purchased the product from and had a dialogue with people who have purchased the same products as I and even garnered a response from G himself. Shut your mouth and think before you post.
