Photograph and Camera talk

And your photos are always VERY good. At what size/resolution do you upload to whatever you use as a storage service?
BTW, Lando, Beatle has the S90 if I'm not mistaken. She can certainly give you some tips. I saw the S90 in the store the other day. I liked it but the size difference would not be big enough for me to justify it over the G11.
-
Damn you!!! Just when I have finally almost decided to get the G11 and you link me to this… Would it be crazy if I ended up getting both?!? If I were to do that I should just go DSLR... Fuck me!
-
I always decide on the practical purpose of a camera first. Do I want a cam for on the go or one for photo shootings.
The S90 still fits in a pocket - which is why I went for it instead of the panasonic lumix.
The second thing I compare is the lense. No matter how many pixels - if the lense is crap u won´t get a sharp image. The only thing that I don´t like about the S90 is the pop up flash - it is exactly where u put ur finger while holding the camera. I got used to it - but I wish with the next run Canon would change that.
I use flickr.

You could wait for the new Fuji HS-10 to come out. Should drop any time now. Specs are super nice! What do you want to use it for? That's the main question. S90 is already excellent but G11 is quite the serious tool. S90's zoom range is rather small. Even G11 is too small for my taste. Need pics in low light without flash? S90 wins. Need swivel screen? G11 wins. Need real flash? G11 wins again. S90 will fit in the front pocket of your jeans. Tightly, but it will fit. Don't put it in the back pocket. You don't want to accidentally sit on it. G11 won't fit. S90 wins. Want to go underwater? G11 has a special case for that.
For DSLR look at the new Canon Rebel (550?), Nikon D40 and D60 but also Olypmpus E620 (really sweet).

Really, why not? The lens sweet spot is often not at the widest angle but a bit zoomed in. I mean, using the digital zoom is one thing. I never do that, either. I just crop on the PC. But the optical zoom is perfectly alright to use. Sure prime lens philosophy has its good sides but even the hardcore prime lens people will then use different primes because, as you know, different shots require different lenses. That said, on the G9 probably 70% of pics are taken at the 35mm setting. But at least 10% are taken at the full 200mm zoom and I have been in situations where I wished I had more zoom, even if it gets hard to handhold at that point. I'm seriously thinking about the upcoming HS-10 as a travel camera if the picture quality is good.

Thanks for all the input! Yeah I have and use the Canon PowerShot SD 630 and love it but am looking for more options and an all around better picture. I feel like the S90 would be a perfect step up from what I have but I have been getting back into Photography more in the past few years and would like to have more control over my digital stuff. Am I correct in thinking that the G11 would lend itself more to this? I am aware of the massive size difference but am not really too worried about carrying a larger camera. I am glad you said that about the flash Beats… Sounds a bit annoying and might be a problem when I am using "The Pod" on a weird angle. All things to consider. Basically, is the $100-$150 difference between the cameras worth the options between the two? I could care less about being able to go under water, I like the LCD screen on the G11 but I can totally live without it, I don't use flash much but when I do I would like it to be powerful enough to actually use, and like Beats I do not zoom much but would not mind the option for certain situations that call for it...

I just priced the two. Cheapest s90 was $380 from reliable source. Cheapest G11 was $448 from Newegg or Dell. So that's more like a $70 difference. I'd say the G11 wins for price/value relation.
The S90 and the G11 both offer plenty of manual control and the lens ring on the S90 is ingenious if it's big enough for your fingers. I'd go to a local store to play around with both. That should help a lot.
I guess the question is one of pocketable or not and of low light or not. If you need the extra low light capacity and want something pocketable, go S90. If not G11.

Thanks Till! Yeah I played around with my friends G11 this past weekend but I have not had a chance to mess around with the S90 yet. Maybe if I have not made my decision by the time Beatle gets out her she would be kind enough to let me look hers over? Although I am very impatient and will most likely be at the store tomorrow playing around with them.

I will be at the store tomorrow.

So I went in to Best Buy today to check out the Camera situation. After about 30 minutes of physically comparing the two I am now leaning toward the S90. If anyone can find it cheaper than $380 please let me know. Thanks!

Pulled the trigger on the S90 today… Damn I am gonna love that thing to pieces! G12 comes out in August I believe...
-
I am happy to! After going and holding them combined with the fact that I plan on eventually getting a DSLR. In addition, the G12 comes out and I could definitely see myself getting that when it comes out. Thanks for the advice. Many more High Quality (Finally!!!) flicks to come…

I am having issues uploading my photos since yesterday. When I connect my S90 to my computer it should automatically open up my chosen Program to upload the photos. I have checked the preferences, rebooted the computer, tried both USB ports, checked the cord, etc… Help if you can. Thanks!

I use a mac so no "My Computer" but no, it is not showing up anywhere…
