soft toe on those JCM?
also….anyone know the big difference between Cougar and BH? I'm just curious
-
I think I ordered a celastic toe…
Cougar uses the Northwest last, Bounty Hunters are Smokejumpers with the Semi Dress last. My oxfords have the NW last, I can do some pics...
The NW last is my favorite last, some days ago I ordered a Black Rough-Out Cougar -
ive seen lots of pics, and I know I prefer the SD last to the SJ last….but I havent seen much about the NW last. I only ran across the cougar because the spec that I'm interested in (brown/red dog roughout with a christy sole) looks a lot like the default cougar on bakers website.
unrelated question: I'm assuming that a boot built with a christy/2021 sole can be resoled to any other type of vibram (100, 430, etc). Correct?

SD last is not so bulky, SJ last is bulky and you have enough room for your toes (if you have some), the NW last is something between, its a little bit "rounder" than the SD last.
A good cobbler should do the job, but dont forget, the cougar has a different construction on the welt, dont know if it´s a problem, but it will look different.

I dont find em (too many boots on their page haha), but yeah, I think it can be done I like the 2021 and the 4041 (cristy), especially the 2021, dont ask me why, I just like em.

I have no experience with White's boots. I heard they run a little large. I'm thinking of taking a gamble on a pair on thAy.
What size am I in White's in Chippewa, Danner, etc.?
Here's the pair I'm looking at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Whites-boots-/281250005473?pt=US_Men_s_Shoes&hash=item417bce81e1
that's my pair. have them listed here as well in the buying and selling thread. funny thing is I get traffic from some honest forum members on ebay and then I get the weird stalker dudes that bid and just sort of watch everything I do.
in any event think they might be too small for you seth, but as previously stated everyone s feet are different
Thanks! I agree, after checking my feet on a Brannock Device, I think these will be a bit too small for me. Good luck.

Bounty Hunters and Farmer Ranchers are the same boot, no?
Btw, Aho, you gotta grace this thread with a few more shots of these boots- Especially, the side profile. These all but convince me to get British Tan (which is apparently the same stuff as "classic brown" if you can believe it) for my next pair

For me its not a matter of soft toe OR celastic, it's embracing both, in the right context, depending on the style of boot, the type of leather, and what look you are trying to achieve. I own boots with both types of toe boxes, and like both for different reasons. But I almost screwed up my last pair, I ordered a soft toe SJ in bullhide, and they shipped celastic by mistake. Lucky mistake for me as I like the bulkier toe on this particular boot. But I do love the soft toe box on my cxl BHs, and Road Champ and Viberg engineers. But generally speaking, I think the "safer" choice with White's is to get the celastic toe. You won't be disappointed with celastic - but the soft toe box can be hit or miss. And "gambling" with $400 boots can definitely lead to disappointment.

IIRC, Bounty Hunter and Farmer Rancher are not the same. BH is built on a Semi Dress last, FR uses the Smoke Jumper last. It also appears to come with soft toe by default - at least mine did.
I have a few side profiles I can share:
This is a Farmer Rancher I ordered from Black Bear Trading in Telluride, CO. They had brown pairs in stock and gave excellent advice on sizing – they recommended a 12.5D instead of the 13D I originally thought I needed and the fit is spot on.
It came with a soft toe – The toe box is very roomy and has a nice round shape even without the celastic. Given the choice though, I would definitely order single celastic. With such a massive sole construction, some toe protection seems to make more sense -
What's the difference between a pair of standard lace smokejumpers (not lace to toe) and farmer ranchers then?
Edit- Searching wayyy back in my memory bank- standard farmer rancher is on the 700 sole and SJ on lug sole? Do I have it? :-\
