pish, night skiing is cold and the light is flat ;p
ya the right equipment is vital, I've got shaped all mountian skis, they do great on everything but powder, I'm so fucking lost on how to ski powder because I've done so little of it. Groomers, crud, ice… no problem but powder always kicks me back on my tails and everything goes to shit from there. A couple people have told me I need to lengthen my turns out and get fatter skis. My major purchase next year before I go skiing will be something ~110 under foot, they should pair nicely with what I have now.
-
110 under foot is fucking brutal…the salomon's i've bought lately are something like 72! but yeah, for powder you def. need something that big!
was in despered need of a new boot and a helmet, so i just went ahead to the local ski center and copped these two babies.
Salomon - Brigade Audio
Nordica - Hell and Back H3
tomorrow's gonna be the first test for the new equipment…weather forecast is pretty shitty but still better than sitting at home, no?
-
You better spent some time in those boots before you take them out for the day
Fanya I highly recommend Volkl Shiro's for powder 119 under foot. They are a pow slayer.
-
Did you go to a boot fitter?
-
Did they do a proper fitting? Usually takes an hour or so. Nothing worse then boots that don't fit properly.
-
@derivative666 I'll look at them, I'm looking for something to compliment my current set which is 116-76-110.
I bought a pair of boots this year also, didn't do a boot fitting, just tried on some pairs and bought what fit best, I agree with Dev though, the first 3 days in them weren't the most fun, I should of worn them around the house reading books giving them a slight break-in before going out, oh well maybe next time. Maybe I'll get a proper boot fitting next time?

Very happy with my set up:
Volkl Kendo 191 w/ Look Pivot 14
Volkl Shiro 193 w/ Dynafit TLT Radical ST
Dalbello Panterra 120
Leki Titanium 14 -
Hate when this happens!
-
There is skiing…..and then there is crested butte.
I opt for the double black

most shops should offer you a complimentary boot fitting. they can create heel support, extra padding, cants, punch outs etc. a good boot fitter should be able to look at you standing in front of them with shorts on, and tell you any lower body injuries that you have had, as it will be obvious in your posture. your boots should be beyond comfortable, any minor pain or annoyance can be fixed. you definitely owe it to yourself to get your boots fitted.
around here on a good powder day the smallest waist width youll see anyone on is 115. d666's recommendation is a very good one.
-
also looked into the dalbello panterra but unfortunately they were out of my size…so went with the Nordica Hell and Back H3 100!
the guy in retail said that the toes should touch the front of the shoe when standing up straight. now if you bend your knees, the foot tends to slight back and the room in the toes is getting more and more, so they have to be a tad thight at first, no?! -
The hell and back is a great boot, and it sounds like your basic fit is good. if you find that you have anything that bothers you comfort wise in your feet after you wear them skiing a few times, don't hesitate to go tell the shop. For example, if the boot were to feel a bit too tight around your big toe, they could definitely make it bigger there, thus making your boots much more comfortable

thanks for the hint daniel…so far i have 2 days of hitting the slopes with the new gear (helmet, boots and ski). love everything i've bought
on saturday i was at Grindelwald again (same location as the week before) and yesterday and today i was at mount titlis in Engelberg (pics are in the making)...unfortunately today got cancelled cuz of too heavy winds

Skied sat morning 3 hours of straight bumps. Could barely walk the rest of the day. Embrace the burn!
-
Will be doing bump runs all night tonight. Need to up my game.

I put this together a couple of years ago, the go pro thing is not really for me though so I've since sold it
