Thanks gbougard.
I'm up here in Humboldt county (far northern California on the coast, little over an hour south of Oregon).
Although, I do travel and work a bit. Usually SF, but also NY once a year and ocassionaly LA.Until I move to Cali, I guess I wont have the privilege of being tattooed by you! When i was on the East Coast this Summer and last Summer or in Chicago two years ago, I did not see any Pacific island designs. Is there any on the West Coast? Given its proximity to the Pacific, I seem to remember there is a Samoan community in CA. Has there been a Maori/Samoa/Pacific influence in the tattoo scene in Cali?
There are some Tongan tattooers in the San Jose area…
Beyond that there are usually Samoan and Hawaiian tattooeres that visit conventions on the west coast.
@havingmysay:great work katsushin. will you be at the sf convention at all? even i fits just hanging out? i'm hoping to finally make it up there this year.
i'll be in brooklyn in a couple of weeks, hoping to run by smith st and get some more work done by berk krak or steve boltz
Probaly doing a new SF convention in March.
And Bert and Steve are bothe great tattooers. We all sat in at Tattoo City in SF a couple of years ago around the same time. -
My latest tattoo, I'm doing the whole lower right leg with this awesome Marquesas Islands design. Here is the calf, the shin is not yet finished: I did the sides of the bone, left about 2 inches on the shin bone itself and will do this area (it's going to hurt bad bad bad) September 27.

I've been thinking about getting the four bars logo from Black Flag over my ellbow for a while now. Still undecided, as it would be my first tattoo…

I say go for it, but dont make it too big. Why?You're likely going to get addicted to this shit and will want more stuff on your skin, and you gotta make sure that the following tattoos will be in harmony with that first one if that first one is BIG and kinda dictates how the rest will look and feel. If it is smaller, less real estate is taken, less influence on the rest, etc…
