Catch of the day [Fishing]

^^
About 15 feet below on the next deck, which is about 20 feet above the water. The trick is to get the fish to surface and have its head out of the water, it just stops fighting then. Made a 3-prong gaff out of 8" welded u-bolts with the ends grinded to a point. Looks like a huge treble hook. Splice some 0.5" manilla rope around the welded eye. Then put a spring-loaded caribina through the manilla about 3 feet above the eye of the gaff. That way you can clip the caribina to your line and run it down straight under the fish, and then give it a good yank! -
Great catch on a handline, that thing would have gone nuts!
I'm sure that tasted much nicer than your normal rig food, nice work!

Caught this Dorado on a handline, offshore Angola. These are great fun to catch, as they don't half put up a fight! I think it weighed in at +/-25lbs. The fillets were rubbed with Cajun spices, & blackened on the hot-plate within 45 mins of pulling it out the water. I've yet to encounter a better tasting fish than the Dorado, (aka Mahi Mahi/Dolphin Fish/Lampuka).
that's friggin awesome.

Where you off/what are you going for Giles?
Giant Trevally, Maldives…
Lovely little outfit you have there. I'm having to invest heavily in the GT trip. Anything less than bomb-proof (and that really means I'll only trust the best Japanese tackle) will just get smoked......Have some kit to pick up in May and some more probably in November...

sounds like proper fishing! I will get there one day I hope
On the subject of GT lures I remembered this link I got from somewhere - 3d printing them

Nice read! Interesting. We were supposed to go sea trout fishing today, but last night got a little out of hand so nobody made it haha.. Hopefully on monday.
Edit: Between myself and my three mates, we didn't have a single bite (or even a nibble..) in roughly four hours today. At least it was sunny!

Last night I had my first beach session of the season. 10:30 - 04:30.
1 small Starry Smooth Hound (expected at this time of the year)
1 small Codling (unexpected for this time of year)No pics, as it was pissing down, windy and uncomfortable.
Not exactly an unfettered success….
