That being said, heavily tailoring cuts is also something that's a bit controversial. Personally, I think that while hemming $400 jeans is normal, tapering them is too radical and drastic. Haraki-san and Giles work like artists on the designs and the result is their vision. Modifying the cut just means this is the wrong cut for you, and you're fucking with what was intended. Obviously they are your jeans and it's entirely up to you what you do with them. If it was me and I wasn't happy with the cut, I'd put them up for sale and re-invest the proceeds in the cut I wanted, before tapering what is intended to be.
Neph speaks the truth. I agree with these guys, hack off some length and you'll love them from the calf down too. I remember wearing my 25oz busters to the mall and I couldn't get the fly down to take a leak. Wrestling with your crotch at a urinal earns you tons of odd stares.

I have to respectfully disagree. What the artist intended is a silly notion, at least in my mind, when it is a garment to be worn and everyone has a different body.

Obviously people should do as they please. I would never change a cut personally. I love the idea of finding the perfect cut for my body type and for my part I'm paying for Haraki-san's designs as much as anything else. I'm not wearing the famous 666 cut anymore if I've changed the entire concept of the design from slim straight to slim tapered. If I want a high rise, fitted top block and a taper I'd find a manufacturer with that design in their portfolio.
But that's just me and I admit to liking the conceit of artist's intent and authentic design. Some people chop and channel classic cars, others wouldn't dream of it.

"If you have an experienced tailer, which you can discuss your needed cut and change of a design… why not?
If not, live with your denim or sell." mom, wife, fiancé, girlfriend, white rabbit, denim heart
This is an interesting point of debate. The fact is, IH is Haraki-sans masterpiece. His craft and lifes work. To that end I could understand if offense were taken. That said, I also agree that if you buy a Rembrandt and decide to draw stick figures on it, it's your business to do so. Is it in good taste, maybe not, but it is yours to do as you please with
Going to do that with the World Tours jeans?
Ha no I will rock them as you guys intended them to be. It will probably do me good in a way to have a pair I cannot alter on me for a month.

Awesome schedule: During summer time I can show those pants the Swiss alps and glaciers and giving them some fresh alpine air during some sweatty mountain climbs ha ha
If anyone is in Switzerland then, he can join me for some alpine trips -
Great line-up!

…I seriously recommend only EMS shipping to Russia!
Seul, take note…Beetle can ship from Yekaterinburg to my Moscow address (or we organize a meet-up and hand-over somewhere in Russia) and I'll pass on to Rüdi via my Berlin address.
This should keep cost and, most of all, risks low!

i did it in the order i did because i was concerned with the jeans getting to AUS from Russia. Is there less chance of things going wrong leaving Russia than going in?
-
This is starting to sound like a James Bond movie! I like it.
Foxy I will take your lead on this as I have never shipped to Russia and know nothing about their postage service.
So if you are happy to do that then your mission is get the ducks in and out of Russia in one piece!
-
This is how it works. A number of people "sign-up" to the tour, they then take it in turns to wear the jeans, documenting what they do, the location they live in etc, in this thread for one month. At the end of the month, the jeans are cleaned and posted on to the next person in line. Repeat until they fall apart…..(that para was a Giles Edit.....)

Reading the past few posts has made my day! I can't wait to see what kind of shape these are in when I get them!

OK - Seul will ship them to Berlin, I will smuggle them into the country and "sell" them to Beetle like in the Soviet-era times.
I will ask some of my friends to give us some insights from that time and what is was like trying to own things like foreign recordings, nylons and (Levis) jeans; how much they cost and/or how many kilos of caviar they were traded for with them foreigners…

Waiting for the Double Indigo 666 tour schedule…
