IH-634 - Non Selvedge 21oz Indigo Straight Cut Jean
We thought it was about time we offered the non selvedge versions of our classic 634 straight cut. We did sell them when we very first started doing business outside of Japan and then for reasons lost in the mists of time, we stopped.
As a designer/patterner, one has much more scope to make a flattering cut with non selvedge. With selvedge, you have to have a straight side seam. With non selvedge you don't. So on the 634 and 461, the side seam is curved to be more flattering. The non selvedge 21oz denim is woven on a projectile loom at extremely high tension (much higher than a shuttle loom can weave at) and is treated with resin before we cut and sew, this makes them, more hard wearing, more wind proof, more waterproof and prevents flapping at the cuff when riding.
30-34, 36, 38 & 40
USD275

I suppose to save $40. Or just to go against the grain a bit and have a non-selvedge premium jean.
I might just be making it up but the pictures of the non-selvedge denim look slightly less inky than the selvedge pics of the same denim.

@TrickHell:
I didn't know if there was a cult of "no selvedge, please," like there's a cult of raw denim or what the deal was. If you're stacking instead of cuffing it doesn't really make much of a difference anyway, unless you're a railroad track fade addict.
It's a very different denim. My 1634 were even softer than my 633s out of the box. This denim drapes well and wears very hard. I like my 1634 and wear them when I need a break from my 633s. I don't care that they aren't selvedge and I even wear them with a cuff. At this level of quality, selvedge doesn't matter to me. I'd be happy to take pics if you want a comparison.

I remember scrolling through the 634 and 461 threads a while back and seeing a lot of posts from people asking Giles to source some of the Non-Selvedge versions for them. I can't remember if it is because they are the true-OG styles from IH or not, but G has mentioned a bunch of times that H-San doesn't really care if it's Selvedge or not. I've seen some super beat up pairs of the Non-S 634s and they are crazy awesome. Also, the sizing is very different than the Selvedge versions so maybe it will help some people find their perfect pair.
edited saw earlier post lol

I need to update the product pages with some more info when I have time.

And they are cheaper…..

So that's why the Non-S 461 keep grabbing my eye

I believe it is decided… My next pair will be these - now if only people in my size would stop buying ALL the 634 - in every denim! Haha

No problem with zippers .. but with 'non selvedge'

I don't think this has been mentioned yet and i'll probably get a telling off by the real fade fanatics but because they are coated with resin they don't fade as quickly. I think that can be a good thing if you wanted to have a pair for "smarter" occasions. But like Giles says its really been designed for riding in mind. I'm thinking these would be perfect for the winter months of you're an all year round rider like myself.
The quality of the denim and the colour is amazing though… definitely not one to be sniffed at.

@Giles or @Sam, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Non-Selvedge version of the 21oz fabric is the same used on the Indigo Rider's jackets - Based on how amazing the jacket on this page ( half way down - http://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=171.30), these jeans will "eventually" look beyond amazing. Plus, Ive seen some really "washed out" pairs of jeans on H-San's IG account, im guessing that's how these look after years of consistant wear. Def worth something to look into for those wanting some variety! I always wanted the basic 21oz denim - so once a 36 is back in stock in these, I'll try to snag.

Thanks Giles. Should be awesome for those willing to take the plunge!

This denim seems similar to the original IH 21oz. I met up with my buddy Doug and we compared his deadstock OG Freebees to my 1634 (same loom as the nonselvedge 634 but black).
For anyone interested:Bottom line, this denim is legit.
