Figured I would post up some porn for you guys and gals. I have been rocking these pretty hard the last year. I have only used Bick 4 sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly….just whenever I had time and I thought they were a little dry. I do plan on cleaning them with Bick 1...but oh well...ha.

got my self some 8111's some months ago but just can't make them work… tried to break them in and walked 1,5 days in them. since then, my heel hurts unnormal and i cant walk in them for more than 5 minutes. tried several times to pause a few days or a week before the next wear without luck. my left foot won't accept them. it's not a tiny uncomfortable pain it feels like a fractional heel on one point.
i have a pair of cheap ass dickies moctoes in which have no problems to walk in the whole day. really comfy.so i think i have to part with the 8111's

^ That's unpleasant … I own 3 pairs of Iron Rangers (8112, 8113, 8114) + 1 pair GT's .. never had any problems. Not as comfortable like my Wesco's, but cushy enough.
yup. especially that i still got the bad feeling in the heel since like 3 months… a shame, cause i really love the look of the boots and the size is on point. my right foot has no problems at all.

When I got my Iron Rangers I had my heels rubbing and irritating them badly and my heel itself hurt a little. I got myself high quality socks(SmartWool) and some cheap Dr Scholls(which I have been rocking a year) and never had a problem since, plus way more comfy!

I have two pairs of GT's which never gave me a problem, and I ordered a pair of Beckmann Chukkas and I had to bring one of my pairs of GT's to work with me for 3 months so I had something to change into halfway through the day because my left pinky toe was getting ravaged. I didn't think the Chukkas were ever going to break in, but they finally did.

Figured it was time to give my burgundy IRs some love:
Right shoe is before cleaning, left shoe is after some saddlesoap and mink oil:
After some soap, oil and a brush, they cleaned up nicely!

What's the going rate to get a pair of moc toes resoled? Is it job for my local cobbler or do I need to find someone a bit more specific

Depends on how good the cobbler is tbh and also what you want.
Im pretty sure that my mate does them, but he is so busy these days (and also not in your neck of the woods) that it may not be worth your while.
Will happily pm you his details if you want, just let me know. Worst you can do is give him a call and see what he can do.

The Red Wing shop in Newburgh St will resole them for you - about £75 I think (the last time I asked). They may have partnered with Original Cobblers Ltd in Orpington, who offer Red Wing restoration services (www.shoe-repairs.co.uk).

@tmg - I had a local guy put a vibram sole on my Moc Toes and although they are a bit more comfy, they had to add an extra welt to it (not sure this was REQUIRED or if they were too lazy to make the existing one work). Sadly, I paid $75USD for the resole, and the local RW store will bring them back to factory specs for $100USD i believe. Although a local cobler may do a good job (especially if you want them custom), in my experience I would go through Red Wing as they ship them off to the factory in the midwest and have their boot builders redo the soles.
Let us know what route you go and post of pics for us to see!

Yeah that link to the original cobblers is a good one. Thanks.
There used to be a time when you could guarantee being able to pick a new pair of redwings up in a sale for £80.
