Almost anything goes, I'm stying 10 days, an overnight trip to LA is planned, but otherwise nothing so far. Maybe would like to go for a motorcycle trip in the desert…beaches?? rockabilly gigs, good bars, shopping also as I have my wife ond son with me...and our hotel is quite near the harbour.

Here's a quick list of stuff. I'll keep adding just to give you options. And sorry I don't know much as rockabilly culture goes. If you need any elaborating on anything let me know.
1. Motorcycle ride: Julian Pie Company 8East to 79N
2. Food: Carnitas snack shack, Phils BBQ, Lolitas mexican food, Yakitori Yakyudori, Grand Ole BBQ y Asada, Mister A's, Bali Hai
3. Dive bars: Tower bar, Whistle stop, Bluefoot, Hamiltons Tavern
4. Beach: Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, La jolla shores, Sunset cliffs in OB (at sunset)Cheers from the mobile

Forgot breweries: Ballast point, Stone (they have a restaurant also in Liberty station)

@heavygenes gave a nice list of stuff . i might add that shopping for men is not so great although your wife might like it . Cool stuff out here for kids depending on what they are into.
As far as breweries there are a ton of good ones , might want to look into the pub crawl tour things they have going on now.
Gaslamp (downtown) in general is good for sight seeing ,bars and food .
Los angeles is great but plan your trip wisely so you don"t fight the traffic , staying central to the location where you plan sightseeing in la is crucial as its spread out and driving alot will take the fun out of it.
Would also recommend Tijuana if your kid is older than 12. -
Jack, you might want to check out Gibson & Barnes in El Cajon…They have flight jackets in both leather
and nylon, motorcycle jackets and aviation related items. I'm sure you can find something for yourself
there! -
Well Cal-Leathers is in Ventura, not at all close to San Diego…Gibson & Barnes in El Cajon is right next
to San Diego, would be worth a look if you get the time and their prices aren't insane. Hope you get
the chance to check them out. -
For filson and carhartt Iron mountain outfitters can't be beat. And there's a men's clothing store called Lone Flag in Del Mar.

That's true! If you're going to be in SD for a couple weeks then Ventura is do-able. Public
tansportation in SD isn't too bad, lots of busses and I think they have trams in the old town area.
Your hotel should have all that info but renting a car will get you farther afield. -
Almost forgot. Depending on when you come in July. The comic con is here July 21-24 hats always fun even if you don't go into the convention. So much stuff in the surrounding areas.
