Watches - another OCD problem
-
Hodinkee reviewed the Glycine Airman No 1, and liked it. It's a cheaper alternative to a Rolex GMT, and comes in a 36mm case. I figured it might be of interest…

That Antiques Roadshow segment on the Rolex reminded me of another I'd seen on the UK version of the show.

Enjoy! Especially the owner's comment at the end.

There's an interesting piece at Revolution on the Best of Basel 2016. (H/T to @Tempvs for the article.)
The journalist, Geo Cramer, reckons that most of the brands are missing the point: Watches need to be cooler to appeal to a wider audience than collectors, and need to be cheaper because the Chinese aren't spending so much.
I agree with him.
Some of his picks are interesting. Sure, he includes Rolex, Tudor and Patek, but also talks about Tag Heuer's new Connected watch and tourbillion. The former is so successful that it still hasn't been launched here in Oz due to supply constraints.
Cramer is also a big fan of Hublot, and includes the Meca 10 in his list. I saw a hands on at aBlogToWatch, and thought it was a cool piece. But reading the comments it sounds as though watch nerds are comparing it unfavourably to other, more prestigious maisons. I think that they're missing Cramer's point.

Lazy Sunday with Iron Heart jacket and Rolex Deepsea. The largest of the Rolex sports range also the highest spec. I'm still a massive fan of the early GMT masters though.
