Wore (and swore by) nothing but Clarks for many years.
After a few year lay off I recently went to pick up the same pair I wore for 4 years straight (Naturvelt I believe), and something was definitely off. The leather was not nearly as nice and they looked and felt "cheaper" and I'd even say flimsier.
The retailer told me that Clarks of England had become just Clarks and was now making most stuff in China.
Very sad and dissapointing moment for me… -
Correct, unfortunately: http://www.clarks.co.uk/HistoryandHeritage_1990-present
That being said I have a pair of Weavers that I love…

I went into a Clarks shop in Weston-super-Mare last year to try on a pair of desert boots only to be told they don't carry them in stock and I would have to order them over the internet. I couldn't believe that, I thought they were their most popular model. Needless to say I didn't purchess a pair.

I think the most clarks desert boots nowadays r made in vietnam.

What can I say??? I love Wallabees big time, but these days they're made in China, and although they are trying (as far as I've read) to construct them on the original lasts, they just can't get anywhere near the quality that Padmore and Barnes did by hand, back in the day. Excuse the dodgey camera phone pic – P&B Irish Wallys have that low profile toe box that give a really snug fit, plus the range of leathers and suedes they had back on offer those days were great…
Keep an eye out on ebay, especially for the insole print which will indicate Irish made…
Plus if you bid on P&Bs you might outbid me and save me some coin haha!
