Watches - another OCD problem
-
That Railmaster looks lovely. is that a Toshi strap on it??
-
The photo is from Hodinkee's preview, and I think that it's possibly standard fitment.
Monochrome Watches' preview has a photo on a herringbone strap, which is pretty tasty.
I agree that the new Railmaster is a lovely watch. I'm tempted myself.

i understand the history of omega and the railmaster. but it does remind me of a 6694 rolex. and i'd love to have one of those instead..
-
What a stunner! I like the mix of texture and print. Well done Omega!

Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea 116660 for James Cameron.
For such a heavy watch it is well balanced on the wrist. I love the Kawasaki green font on the dial.

The Rolex 6694 is a cheaper than the new Railmaster, and significantly less than the 1950s models!
Actually, the Omega RAF watch is a real bargain. It's basically the same watch as the Railmaster, but for a fraction of the price.
-
hahaha. what's the going price for the railmasters? vintage or new?
-
The modern, non-limited Railmaster is CHF 4,500 according to Monochrome, which is about the same in US Dollars. The limited edition "Trilogy" model is CHF 6,300, again from Monochrome.
The vintage pieces on Chrono24 start at somewhere around $15,000.

you know my thoughts. As I said, got check out tudor and rolex in person at the same time/day. I think you'll find you want a Rolex. Such an enabler ::), but yeah, think you'll find it's worth it - by far.
I agree with @Snowy here. I really like what Tudor is doing, but their watches don't feel as well made as a Rolex.
But I'd suggest going down to a local watch dealer (or ten), and seeing what you like. I find most Rolex watches a bit boring, except for the new Air King. I'd rather buy something that I want, rather than choosing a piece based on resale value.

**QFT - the maxim of my life. **
I have never ever bought anything with any view to its resale value, I buy shit I like (homes included), if when I come to sell it, it's worth more than I paid for it, that's a bonus. Life's to short to add another layer of complexity to the buying, owning, loving process…..

I'm the same. I buy it because I love it. If it increases in value that is just a bonus.

ha, you and me in the same boat mate! @SimonQ. …when was your 30th if i may ask and what specific model is that one?
still figuring it out...the more i look at the rolex watches, the more they grow on me and the more i like them...damn ^^thanks again for the honest words guys...you're totally right. go with what you like/love instead of buying something just because the resell price is gonna be insane. cuz if you do, you (normally) don't care about reselling

Been collecting watches for a long time. While my friends were buying expensive cars, I bought watches.
Here's my .02 buy what you like, and what sings to you. If you can't afford what you like at the moment…save until you can purchase it. Doubtful you are going to lose or make a profit on Rolex, Panerai or IWC et al. If you buy what you love, resale shouldn't be a factor...especially if you are buying in the second hand market.
Speaking of which, if you're looking at the second hand market, I'd also suggest timezone.com and be sure to ask the seller for references. In other words, don't buy the watch, but buy the seller…I hope that makes sense.
FWIW I have a few Rolex, and a single Tudor. I'd put the Tudor on par with anything from Rolex or even from the other manufacturers I have (within reason of course).
Most of all have fun!
But be warned your significant other may want one or two of her own
