Ramping up for this contest which is quickly approaching, I was hoping for some more experienced folks' recommendations and results with using spray starch?
I have the heavy duty Niagara kind and was looking for application feedback where to apply (I'm planning in the lap area to enhance whiskers and behind the knees for honeycombing) as well as how often?
Thanks in advance! Hope the post wasn't tl/dr

@tfahey00 , we don't use starch dude. The contest is about natural wear and evolution "starching" is basically like boxing with horse shoes in your gloves.

Doesn't start until November 1…. I'm pretty sure you can even enter after the start date, it just means you have less wear time.

Hey @fanya that awesome pair of 25oz Beatle Busters you had from a couple years ago… were they as tight as these 25oz are? And did they ever get comfortable? I'm debating on what pair I should go with. The 888s (likely to be looser and comfy) or all out masochism the Pronto XHS I just got. The Prontos fit great in the waist but are tight as fuck when I sit down. Thinking maybe the tightness might help the awesome fades though, if you're picking up what I'm putting down. Thinking I can put up with a couple of months of agony if the payday is worth it.

I guess since there is not limit on entering I could just try the Prontos for a month and pay a separate entry fee for the 888s of the Prontos don't work out, after a month or so.

Hey. I put them on just to see the difference. It has been probably since the end of the competition since I worn them. The current pair of 25oz indigo/indigo are slightly tighter in the top block and tighter in the thighs. The biggest difference in the top block is that the BB front and back rise has to be closet to two inches higher. Maybe its only 1.5 but it is a huge difference. The I/I thighs are basically painted on while the BB thighs have just a slight bit of clearance, it isn't enough to even stand the inside seam on end, maybe 2 millimeter in diameter difference but it's enough it seems to possibly be inhibiting the inside streaks on the I/I that are along the inseam on the BBs, I haven't really sat cross legged yet to see if they will form on the I/I.
The biggest difference has to be the taper, there is a more room at the knee in the BB and the stove pipe leg is almost what I would call dramatically bigger on the I/I than the BB. The I/I taper has to start above the knee and is fairly aggressive, the leg opening is quite a bit smaller on the I/I.
I have a tough time getting the I/I off due to the slimness of the lower leg and tightness of the thighs.
I would say that the pain of the waist band is probably similar between the BB and the I/I sitting down when they were new. The BB might of been worse just due to how high the rise was. But the I/I seem to be breaking in faster. I'm not even a week in and they seem to already be settling slightly.
I can't remember on the BB, but I/Is are comfortable standing up. I can't lift my thigh to parallel so stairs can be tough, especially two at a time which is what I'm use to doing, and I have a difficult time getting on my boots, and sitting hurts, but standing is nice
On the comfortable part. So the last two years I've worn a bunch of jeans, compared to the two years I spent exclusively in the BBs. I worn the 21/23oz BB for a year or so, I worn some 18oz 3sixteens for 3 months or so, the self edge x dry bones hand dyed 15 oz for about 3 months and the 18/14 oz (whatever they were) IH yenim for about 3 months. And holy shit I just about fell over when I realized how soft and comfortable the 25oz BBs were that I put down two years ago. They were like sweat pants. They so soft and supple it is incredible. It made me yearn to wear them again. It gave me hope for the future of the I/Is. I think jesus smiled in heaven. There were that good.
tldr; give in to the pain, learn from the pain, enjoy the pain, embrace the pain, because it will eventually go away and you will have much joy.
oh and I credit my weird ass washing regime as much as my wear for my fades. you can dig through the 2013/15 thread if you are so inclined, it's in there a couple times I think… If you're lazy and interested post here and I'll type out my philosophy on the fades and washing, when I get time, but be warned, it's weird and I can get rambly, as you can seem from the above.
No idea if any of this helps.

Wow thanks. Mine aren't even that tight. I can cross my legs, squat, do steps. So maybe I will go with them. I know what you mean about how soft they are.
-
@fanya ramble away my friend. i would like to here your opinion and style on washing and fades.
-
I went with these in the end, have fancied the overdyed and feel these will travel well with me through the seasons. They will get a rummage on the beach and a sea wash in the Caribbean next year on our hols.
This will be my first ever denim comp and I am really looking forward to it.
All the best to everyone.
