SOCKS

Speaking of Darn Tough, I bought a 3 Pack of Outlier socks (made by DT if my research is correct) (http://shop.outlier.cc/shop/retail/megafinesock.html) and they have been nothing short of amazing. I mainly use them for travel because I can wear them all day, let them air out for a day and wear them again. They are comfortable, good in varying temps, and have held up really well. Pricy and limited color choices but I highly recommend them.

@Appfaff is right about smartwool socks. I got 3 pairs today, and they are AMAZING. Lightweight, medium, and heavy cushioned.
I was concerned about spending $80 for 3 pairs of socks. But they are so worth it.Thanks a lot for the tip.

Awesome @Filthy - glad you like them! When I was in High School / College, I worked at a small shoe boutique and we were one of the first (Non-hiking focused) shops to sell Smart Wool. It was a hard sell to first timers to encourage them to drop 16-30 bucks on socks (Something alot of us have come to learn on the forum, luckily) but Smart wool were one of the most "re-purchased" items in our store.
I have a few pairs of Thunders of Love coming this week, so I will be excited to try those out as well.

I'm in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and they have smartwool socks out the wahzoo here. It was nice to see them in person…

Got a few more pairs.

Love smart wool, but also really love darn tough and point6. The non 100% wool ones are super robust, can be washed and dryed normal and have compression in various intuitively smart places on the sock to help with fatigue/comfort.
Eddie bower's 'first ascent' brand uses point6 rebranded and can be found on sale for under $7 a pop–Sierra Trading is a good resource.

Good move man. Let dry feet prevail. Make sure u don’t use ANY fabric softener on the wool socks. Air dry is preferable too. Although I can put smartwools in the dryer… without a dryer sheet.

Thanks. I never use fabric softener on anything. I like my clothes soft without chemicals. That's why I am so fond of Iron Heart.

their warranty is the best. i returned a pair that developed a hole in the toebox and they promptly credited me the retail cost.
which reminds me I should use it sooner than later
