IH-634-XHSib - 25oz Selvedge Denim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo/Black

@Filthy dude seeing the way your 634 fades is making me want to try this cut out…I have the XHSib in 555 and I can barely squeeze into them anymore But honestly I think if I size up and choose a loose cut like this would be fun as f to fade.
Either 634 or the 888...but what I dig about the 634 are the big chonky cuff option/larger leg opening.
Anyways, fades are looking awesome man. One of my favorite faded examples of this denim.

Thanks, I have the 888 cut in this denim too. It's a lot tighter in the knee so the combs would develop faster. I kind of cheated with this pair by wearing them wet behind the knees and using starch. The 634 is a comfortable cut and the 888 is pretty comfortable too. But the leg opening is a lot smaller. The 888 is like the 634 and 555 mated.
This is the longest period of time I have ever worn a single pair of jeans. So I am looking forward to completley destroying this pair. The only problem is I am losing weight and they are getting pretty roomy now. So eventually I will have to look into going back to my 888 or a different cut or a smaller size. Believe it or not 5 years ago I fit in a size 33 555. I still have them and cringe when I think about it. When I was younger I used to wear women's jeans to get a fit that was that tight on me

I've heard of starching denim before, but have not looked much into it. Did you only starch the back of the knees or the whole pair? It's like a coating mixture of corn starch and water, correct? Or?

@oaktavia after I washed them when they were still damp, and inside out, I sprayed the backs of the knee with some Heavy Niagra in a can.
https://www.amazon.com/NIAGARA-Heavy-Starch-20-Pack/dp/B06XC5Q32JThen when the jeans were dry and I turned them right side out, I wet the backs of the knee again with a spray bottle of tap water. Then wear them until dry. I did this like 5 times that week until they were really set in. Each time you put them on spray them with water.
Don't put the starch on the outside of the legs because it will leave white marks and flake off. Please lmk if you have any questions. Oh by the way I did not soak or wash these jeans, for like 6 months they were dry, before they saw any water and then I would only hand wash them. It wasn't until I had 14 months on them that I decided to cold wash them in my front loader on gentle with no spin…
This is because they use a sizing material and it makes the jeans stiff, and each time you wash them or soak them this gets removed and the denim get more pliable. Because the 634 is so loose on the knee the combs don't set in as easy as if the jeans were really tight- hence why I cheated.
This topic is kind of controversial and people say "just wear your damn jeans" and just "wash your jeans...". But I have gotten less than desirable results by doing this with like 6 or so pairs of 25 oz denim. So the point is to do what you want with them because they are yours.
There was a guy named Swiss Jeans Freak aka Jeansus who owns the Swiss jeans museum of heaviest fadings, that had the most epic pair of 25 XHS I've ever seen who never washed them for like 3 years. I can't do this, like I think its gross. So I have been trying to find a balance of no water, some water, only cold soaks, and washing. I wrote a detailed article here a long time ago about how I would only hand wash my jeans. But now I kind of gave up caring, but at the same time I wanted this pair to have high contrast fades. ️

Ask 50 people about what they do and you'll get 50 different answers. Like the guy who won the fading competition named Fanya here wore his jeans and "washed them in the shower" while wearing them. Like I couldn't do that either. It'd be a huge mess. So I'll just do what I am doing.

That is just epic info @Filthy!
So true..ask 50 people–get 50 different answers.
But man you went above and beyond with the science of it:)Ive been thinking about my next pair...maybe trying the 634s just for those fat combs you are talking about.
Love to hear some deep dive conversations about various methods in here.
thanks for the info -

I'm pretty bored, so I'm messing with the pro settings on my pos phone camera.

Lookin too nice! I just purchased and wondering did you do an initial soak before you started breaking them in?
-
@Mental_SkëweR I did not soak them. But this is a personal preference thing. If you don't soak them be ready for some fade shifting when you do decide to soak/ wash them.
-
It's been about a month since the last wash and I gave them a hand wash again last night and let the hang over the furnace vent overnight. I am enjoying the evo on the selvedge from the cuffs being tucked into my snow boots. I'm looking forward to see where the combs are gonna shift to this time.
