The Boulevard of Broken Jeans - The Unit 2 Repair Thread
-
Hi Peeps! Some of you may know me and have chatted with me in the past regarding repairs and products. For those that don’t know me my name is Josh and I have been doing denim repairs for the last 6 years previously with Nudie Jeans and now for Iron Heart!
I am starting up a new repair thread so all you legends can see what we are doing and any future plans for new services, I will also be sticking up before and after photos of repairs. If you have any questions or queries for repairs, just hit me up on this thread and I will help in any way I can! I will also post some sick well worn but unfortunately dead pairs on the odd occasions so you can see the awesome evolution of the jean fades.
There are some ground rules for the repairs which I should go over! Just so everyone is aware and on the same page, ALL JEANS MUST BE WASHED this is a biggie and as much as I love you all and doing your repairs if you don’t wash them and dry them they will be sent back to you. It's not just horrible for me but it also puts the machines at risk of breaking.
Pocket Repairs are subject to refusal I am afraid as I can't replace the pocket bags but I will review pocket repairs case by case.
Also, there is no touching of the hair or face I will always try my hardest to keep your jeans going as I believe it's a great sustainable service, however, there will be certain situations where it won’t be doable and I’m sorry. This service is to help prolong your jeans not resurrect them, however, don’t fret and don’t throw them away! Any unrepairable jeans, shirts or jackets will still be eligible for our Relove program where you get 15% of the original value back to you as store credit on your online account with us. More information can be seen here: (https://www.ironheart.co.uk/content/project-relove)
To get the ball rolling follow this link below to submit your repair request.

@JoshC Awesome thread and perfect timing. Mentioned last week that I have a pair of jeans (666-18) that are in need of repair.
I have blown out the cuffs:
…and the crotch may need repair/reinforcement:
The repair form asks for pictures of the areas that need repaired (are these ok, and if not what kind of pictures help you the most?), and what kind of information helps you the most.
Did I wait too long to have the cuffs repaired? Should I chop them and hem them or are the cuffs repairable? What should/can be done to keep these in rotation for a bit longer?
Appreciate any help/advice and look forward to you working your magic…just so you know, I had @Chesson fix a pair of my 666-XHS (Crotch repair/reinforcement) and he did an outstanding job. You’ve got big shoes to fill…

Hey @goosehd, Thanks for shooting those photos across. These are perfect. It's so I can see the area of damage to see what I am working with; these are also repairable.
For the cuffs: I would be more likely to recommend darn over the top of these as it will help to reinforce the area and help it stop from ripping further. It is possible to shorten these, but it depends on how much length you want to lose, as it will either have to be under the area of damage or above it. What we need to keep in mind is when we hem jeans, we need an inch extra to create a fold into the denim to put them through the union special to get them rehemmed.
Out of interest, when you wash your jeans, do you keep the folds/turn-ups in?
Crotch: easy little fix-up. There won't be a problem.
@Chesson is good, and it would be good to see him on the machine again in the future.

I turn my jeans inside out, unroll the cuffs, and pre soak in a tub before I wash them in the machine. Cold water, low/no spin and air dry.
Great news about the crotch…it didn't look bad, but rather stay on top of it, then let it go too far.
How much length would you lose if you chopped them? Is it easier to shorten them (better repair), or darn them? Do you add a patch because it's a high wear area or just darn?
Sorry for all of the questions...

Thread is off to a great start. Stellar work - I kind of want to blow-out the crotch in my jeans now just to get them repaired…
A quick Q if I may, my trusty 888s-21s are just starting to fray along the inseam at the crotch, similar to that which can be seen in the below images but less frayed. Should I worry about it? I note you don't seem to have repaired the fraying so I suspect not...?
-
Hey @EdH, Thanks man! Haha, you say that now but you'll miss wearing them whilst they're getting repaired ;).
I remember for this pair, I didn't need to darn over them as the fraying looked bad, but the time I actually trimmed it all up after fixing the crotch, it was fine. However, this being said, if you put your finger underneath the fabric and between the inseam, if you can see your finger, I would say it's worth getting them fixed up. If you can't, then it should be fine.
Feel free to shoot some images on here

@JoshC Easy - I can x-post from the 888S-21 thread:
(Sorry for the mega-zoomed in crotch-shot.)
As you can see, it's just the fold of the inseam which is starting to fray. Nowhere near being able to see a finger, so I guess I can wait. I just didn't want it to become a thing.

@goosehd Perfect! always better to unroll them otherwise this can sometimes happen quicker with the water sitting in the crease/turn-ups.
Yeah with yours it's not a big hole but as they will be coming in it's well worth getting them done before it gets bigger!
It all depends on the length you need, but you will lose an inch from the cut line because of the 2 half-inch folds so if we cut them at 30" they will be 29" once they've gone through the hemming machine as long as the area isn't damaged.
I can do a patch underneath but what you will find is when you go to put your turn-ups in you may have a piece of a patch potentially on show.
