IHM-34-ODG - Whipcord M-51 Type Field Coat - Olive

Hello everyone, thought I would make a post after receiving this amazing jacket. I had a few email exchanges with Ross, he did such a great job making sure I was comfortable with sizing and just double checking everything before going through with it, which is always appreciated with a purchase no matter the expense. I work in service as well, so I always appreciate and support a business that in turn respects and appreciates it’s customers.
I’m not exactly a photographer, but I took a goofy picture of me wearing this beast of a jacket. It should fill my mild winter like -5 to 10 range, but I could easily layer this up to go way below, it should drop to -20 at nights this week, so I’ll see how she goes. Really loving this piece, as always with Iron Heart absolutely top craftsmanship.

Ya I’m really liking it, I love the style and tried the McCoy’s version on years ago, but it didn’t drape right, it’s thinner and just wasn’t looking the part on me, so as much as I loved the idea of the coat, I had to accept it didn’t fit my body type. Saw this, and Iron Heart Shirting really works for me, so I just decided to order without seeing in person, which I do all the time for a pair of jeans or a flannel, but never a coat. Really happy I did, also glad I grabbed a medium instead of my typical uhf large.
I am sure I could easily wear this through winter, I love my sheepskin coats for when it’s below -15 but sometimes they are a bit much, this coat can easily look the part of a fall coat and I don’t look crazy wearing it when the temps rise around 10 or so. But, as my friend says, on literally any day of the year you can see a guy in shorts and a person in a extra long Canada goose parka out on the street, whether it’s August or January. Just super happy with this, as you might tell by my silly smile.

I love this coat so much! It's everything - warm and sturdy like a bivvy, and very cool.
Since IMHO it had some minor flaws I got it altered by my local tailor:
- a solid coatloop
- knitted storm cuffs
- wool-linings for the large side pockets
Just perfect now.
Wow this is great! Would’ve loved to have this setup while I lived in Chicago.

I am definitely not used to having an opening this large … :-\

How do you folks go for sizing? Your usual true to size, or up/down a size? I'm generally a XXL in IH jackets but they can run a tad larger than I'd like.
-
I’m an XXL and I went all the way down to L for this one, it fits great. I may not be able to layer as much which shouldn’t be an issue with how warm the jacket it is but it belled out too much at the bottom and middle for my taste otherwise.

@northeastwear you get your size S yet? How's it fit?

I did! It fits a treat, really cozy as well. Def a bit of a tradeoff in terms of how long you can tolerate the sleeves being in the interest of getting more space in the shoulders to make layering stuff underneath easier but a UHF feels great on underneath and that's probably the most important part

Omg the idea of wearing a UHF under that nukes me just thinking about it… but then again you do live in a properly cold place

It's true - I wore it yesterday but it wasnt quite freezing so I just went with the tan work shirt underneath:
(jeans are I+W barton slims, boots from NF bootmaker)

Spot on fit, looking good.
