IHSH-295-BB - 14oz Selvedge Denim Western Shirt - Black/Black
-
I have both the 14oz westerns - the IB & BB - and wear both of them as shirts and I tuck them. I have all the varieties of the 33’s (12oz) including the JC and now rarely wear them and have the 14oz in regular rotation. It’s hard to go back to 12oz after wearing the 14oz. Hoping IH releases some more variations of the 14oz westerns in the future.

Thanks, JG
That sounds really good. I'm all for heavy fabrics, and even tucking in (sometimes) as long as it's practical and wearable.
I wish we had more Iron Heart stockists here in Sweden to be able to try and compare different options. At least we have Blackways/Bad Weather Cafe down in Malmö, and as good as they are, they understandably don't carry the widest selection of Iron Heart products.

Do any of you have any experience with my 2 other options? And what's the main difference between the military serge shirt (235-BLK western) and the Johnny Cash black (218-BLK western)? Is it just the 12 vs 13 oz difference?
I'm far from an expert so excuse my crude description, but the best way I can describe the serge fabric is that it's stiffer to begin with but quickly breaks in. You'll also find that the diagonal ridges formed by the twill are much more prominent.
In the most literal sense, it reminds me of a crinkle cut chip/crisp

My question is, is this 14 oz fabric wearable as an actual shirt? Or is it more like a jacket?
I have the 14oz ib and bb and will say that they are heavy and take breaking in at first. After about 50 wears they feel more like shirts and less like jackets. Especially the bb, it is a lot to wear when new. It just takes time to soften and break the fabric and from there it is awesome. I wear both as shirts.

haha, exactly. I was wondering if the serge shirt perhaps looked a bit like the kersey shirts that also have the chip/crisp ridge.
From the sound of all your experiences it sounds like the 14oz breaks in good.
Now I just need to wait for an XL restock.

I'd say the Kersey sits between Serge and Corduroy, and is much softer and stretchier than the Serge from the start.

I can confirm. At first it’s more like a jacket feel but it softens up eventually after a good amount of wear. I wore mine a lot lately and it just starts to get softer.

Thanks for the feedback, it sounds like a good amount of work before it pays off. I'm in.
As for shrinkage, should I expect a couple of cm's/inch?
-
I lost some weight since getting the XXL so I gave mine a good soak and washed it on hot - it tightened up exactly how I wanted taking it in a bit on the sleeves and shoulders and bringing it in a smidge on the sides restoring the taper through the torso. No marbling either. It feels a lot firmer now and bunches a little bit in the arm pits but I think that will sort itself out as it breaks in and softens with wear. I didn’t measure before though so I can’t provide exact numbers but the vibe is good.

To echo @nytimes_gaiden I recall the shirt being a little big on me before the first wash. Shrunk in all the right places but just a tad.
-
Thanks dude I've been wearing it as much as possible…only change into different shirts for work so I don't teach in the same shirt everyday. Been wearing it to bed when my wife is away for work too. Really starting to shed black dye like crazy. Couple of early washes I think accelerated the dye loss.

Incredible. That's a beautiful thing. Too bad there are no XL's left in stock.
I'll just put away 1000 SEK (swedish crowns) every month until this thing is available in my size.
Will it take 3 long months perhaps? More/Less? Who cares, as long as it restocks sometime soon.

@Oaktavia amazing fades!
