What is the “Reputation” counter?
-
@Mizmazzle Reputation is from how many upvotes you get, this can be used to grant access to certain things. However, as we wanted to retain old group statuses such as 'The Unwoven' and so in, we used the existing parameters of Post Count so you wouldn't all lose your titles.

@Mizmazzle Yes, the little up arrow in the bottom right hand corner of each post allows you to upvote something, think of it as your sign of approval for someones fades when they post a cool pic! (or whatever else for that matter)
-
@Mizmazzle Those existing labels such as Raw Unwashed, Prodigy etc are linked to your post count, we carried over from the previous forum so people did not have to start again.
Reputation (one upvote = one rep) does not currently assign you anything other than a visible score in your profile

@Jett129 your post count is present and viewable in your profile, as for your title, that's also selectable from your profile. I have updated it with the correct one - it seems its defaulting to the first one you qualify for (I am looking to fix that right now)
For future ref you can see how to do that here

@Matt @Mizmazzle nothing yet, I was more eluding to the functionality that reputation can be used for certain things but in all honesty I don't want the forum to turn in to a place where others cannot access certain things because their lack of 'rep'. Think of it as kudos to your peers for their contributions and little else
(until we use rep to grant access to secret denims)

I think it's nice to recognize the effort and contributions of other members for sure. I was on another forum long ago that used a 'reputation' system although it wasn't called that. I found it did tend to create a subtle "I'm better than you" element to the forum. Things got much more competitive and hierarchical than community-based (human nature I suppose) with groups of friends up-voting the shit out of their own posts and ignoring others. I have found this forum to be generally very welcoming and nonjudgmental so just sharing my past experiences as I'd hate to see that happen again.
I love the badges (going from unwoven up a tier was nice) The badges and post counts are an incentive for even seasoned users to engage with brand-new ones. The badge tiers are also spaced apart very well. Kudos to whoever came up with those numbers (gonna assume Giles!)
Indeed, Adam's tone seems tongue-in-cheek here on the special access notion, but in seriousness, I don't think it would be enjoyable to log in and see all the "high status" guys reputation pointing themselves to the max with their secret denim pics while I'm looking at my reputation and feeling like a bum.

@Salted-Racer yep the reasons you mentioned in your experience on previous forums is everything we will actively avoid on ours
