IHM-20 - Overdyed 14oz Indigo Denim M65
-
In the chest and length, yes. Shoulders and arms were about perfect….fitted in a sense, so I'm almost thinking that sizing down to L might make it too tight in the shoulders and arms but I think I'm going to give it a shot anyways. And yeah I'll go the SE or MildBlend route.
I can't speak for anyone else but my ihm-20 is fitted for the most part. If I try to layer with a sweatshirt or flannel it's really tight, but with a t-shirt it's perfect. But, given the weight of the jacket I don't foresee needing to layer at all since I have no intention of wearing this as a winter jacket. I plan on wearing this jacket with t-shirts or a henley. I'd say the same would be the case for you since you live in AZ.
When I looked at the measurements I knew a large wouldn't work for me because of body length, sleeve length and chest. I likely would've looked like a little kid wearing his dad's oversized jacket.
-
I'm thinking that's exactly how a Large is going to fit me. I'll pretty much only be able to wear a T shirt underneath which will be fine because the jacket does feel quite warm with the lining. I do get cold very easily though. Combination of being a Phx native and low body fat I think. High is 57 today and that's easily UHR and UHF weather for me.
-
I wore mine a couple weeks back when it was 40 out. I had a sweatshirt underneath and it was perfectly warm. I think this jacket is best suited for temps between 40-60. I will admit that I was concerned about the fit when I first bought it, but I suspect that it'll loosen up over time. I'm pretty happy with it and glad I snagged one.
I've noticed that M65's seem to be the popular item this Spring. I saw that Momotaro and 3sixteen/Alpha Industries just put one out. Of course, i'm biased and think the IH M65 beats them all in terms of quality.

Totally agree.

This one is an interesting case. I was wary on the other side… that I'd go TTS and it might be too loose. But I am large in the shoulders, arms area -- and had I sized down, I wouldn't be able to raise my arms. For reference, I fit XXL (or 3XL) in shirts, so I went with the XXL for the M-20.
It was 60 out this morning, so I wore a cord shirt (the IHSH-184) over a T-shirt and the M-20 and the fit was snug. While it is a bit long in the sleeve (maybe half an inch), had I gone XL, the arms would have fit like sausage casings.
Granted, it fits just fine with just a Tee underneath, but it'd be a bit less fitted in that mode. Can't have it all.
I truly think the fit on this one is very specific to body type. Slimmer might be able to size down... .stockier might want to stick TTS.
Just my cents....

That's what I'm worried about with going a size down and getting the Large…not being able to move my arms around much and being way too tight in that area. The arm/shoulder area was very tailored and fitted on the XL and when I tried moving my arms up I could do it but I felt a slight restriction in movement but nothing too crazy. We shall see.

My range of motion is limited even when wearing a t-shirt, but i'm not doing manual labor or anything that would require me to lift or move my arms around. The one thing I do to check for mobility is that when I have a shirt or jacket buttoned up I extend my chest outwards and or i'll pull at the front to see how much space there is between my chest and the fabric. If I have a fist's length of space then i'm usually fine.
Agree with @Midgegante and that body type will play a part in how the jacket will fit you. I'm fairly average in height/weight, so not overweight but not skinny either. I mentioned this before but I also tend to rely on the fit data provided by IHUK, namely, what size @Giles wears and what size @Sam wears. Giles, Sam and Adam all sized down on the IHM-20 so if they sized down from their usual size then I knew I had to size down as well. Not going to be true for every person but for me it was.

I count myself blessed to be able to get the last one of these in a medium from the shop, apparently a return. I'm in the boat of being kinda in between sizes…in some items, I'm a medium, in some a large (5'10", 165lbs). For this particular jacket, I went with a medium, and I'm glad I did. For additional reference, for me, a 526J L is great for wearing over a hoody, while a 526J M fits a little snug, though M is still my size of choice for that jacket.
The arms are perfect for me in that a flex makes the sleeve feel a little tight but otherwise the sleeves feel very fitted. I tend to run into the issue where either the chest fits or the sleeves fit but never both. Shockingly, this jacket fits great in the chest and the sleeve length! Maybe it has to do with the buttoned shoulder strap thing.
I know this gets thrown around a lot but this is definitely one of my favorite jackets. Among the IH jackets that I own, I'd say that this one is up there with the heavy duck award jacket, which I adore...something about blanket lined jackets...ungh! But this jacket has something else that I love: tons of pockets, and it's overdyed! This is only my second OD piece and man, OD is so beautiful! I can't stress this enough to people who haven't tried OD yet.
I wore it today in 60F weather, just over a t-shirt and I was still a little cold, which is great, since I bought it as a "light" jacket. Because it's "only" 14oz, I thought it would be much lighter and thinner than it is, but it's neither of those, and boy does it feel tough!
Highly recommended!

Well, a few days in, and I can say I am glad I got this TTS. (Again, for reference, I am not Hulk Hogan, by any means, but I have large arms and shoulders, relativistically speaking).
I also gave the M-20 a warm soak, and while I will not say "it shrunk" (bc I am not sure it did), it does feels like it came in, tightened up, et cetera. If it did shrink, it would be in the sleeve just slightly, which is great.
The end result is this thing is spot on perfect. I could wear with a thin button-up (or tee)… or I can wear with a UHF (not with the sleeves cuffed/rolled up, it should be noted) or hoodie. The former is fitting but relaxed; the latter is snuggie-snug. Thank f-g heaven for the pleated shoulders.
This thing is a beast. Way to go IH.

Well shit… you guys in the size down club were right. I received my XL today and it's too big And of course the Larges are gone now. Dammit all to hell.
@Giles any chance to.get another Large or should I just get one from one of the vendors? Kick ass jacket though.
I'd just get one from SE or Mild Blend. Sorry to hear your size didnt work out. Were you swimming in the xl?

I went with my usual size on the basis of shoulder width. Any smaller and it could have caused problems. If it was a perfect world I might have had an inch shorter in length, but geez, it's an M65, not MA1 so I'll deal with it! It's also pretty heavy for a spring/Autumn jacket so I layer if needed.

@dishelveled and I are close in ht/wt but i'm guessing his chest measurement is smaller than me.

looks good @zatenm. These suckers flew off the shelves too
Did you size down on your ihm-20?

Much appreciated gents! Delighted to be a member of this here club @rocket @Appfaff @gaseousclay
Sizing-wise, my IH shirt size is btw M and L. I went M for this one and I’m glad I did.
Could be a bit too snug over an UHF (yet to try it) but should work beautifully with everything else.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I ve just wanted to buy one in xl. All are gone (iirc yesterday 2 were left)[emoji31]
Enjoy ya addiction!
I might be sending my XL back. I've held onto it because I have a Large from SE being delivered to my house today and I'm going to try both on and see which one works better for me. I'll let you know if I end up sending the XL back. I almost feel like I might be in between sizes on this bad boy.
