IHSB-BB-NAT - Natural Horsehide Jacket - The Bareback

@chucktaylor90 Here's mine. To be honest I've worn my black jackets a lot more but you still can see how the colour looks like after 2 years. Like I said, 1 generous amount of mustang paste.
-
@giles I assume that you don't wear it because you are living on the boat now? If you were doing it all over again would you still have used the Obenaufs boot oil? Any other recommendations on how to get it that nice caramel brown color?

Pecards one time. Haven’t taken any recent pics, but it’s darker. Hope that helps.

Just wear it. Don’t over think it.

I dont live on the boat (yet ), but I just have far too much stuff. I've probably got 6 leather jackets that I never wear. I've dozens of pairs of boots, a wardrobe full of shirts etc etc etc A lot of the clothing I have, I got to see how the fabric/leather/whatever aged like/draped like/fit like, they were/are parts of a jigsaw, parts of gathering information. It was an education that made me better at what I did. The way I buy/wear clothes is probably very different from most of you, it's my business, that really changes my approach to what I wear.
I did what I did to the Bareback as an experiment, had I been bothered/had the time/had the money, I would have treated a number of jackets with different products, but I only have one back.
@Sage954 's advice is the best.

Just got here and I'm wondering if I need a size up. Slightly tight in the shoulders and chest. Really can't wear it with a UHF
-
If you’re gonna wear with a tee only then it’s cool if you wanna layer size up imho
-
@Heavy_blue that's what I was thinking. Next size up should be more comfortable, unfortunately it's sold out so I'll have to wait.
-
I think that looks like the correct size. I think if you sized up the shoulders will be too dropped and your sleeves maybe a shade long @Link-Of-Time
-
@Alex I'm still up in the air on it. I recently got back into powerlifting after a couple years so my concern is it becoming too tight over time. I'll think on it for the next few days!
-
You’ll probably be happy with either size. Maybe look at photos in clutch magazine or something similar to have a more confident sense of how you want it to look.
-
@Link-Of-Time THIS! Going thru this now. What an ironic consequence of trying to better yourself, right? It requires a brand new wardrobe. Even the slightest bit of gains, and the re-apportionment of muscle and fat throws EVERYTHING off. I suppose it’s a good problem to have, but catastrophic for my bank account.

@Giles said in IHSB-BB-NAT - Natural Horsehide Jacket - The Bareback:
I used Obenaufs oil…
Did you use the standard oil or the LP? Curious if it's the former if you dabbed it on with a rag or something, seems like it'd be tough with the little swab. I find that thing tedious / hard to control but frankly I only really use it on leather patches so I just deal with it. I imagine you did something different on such a huge area but whatever the case, I'd love to know the details.

Fantastic looking Jacket, first i was a little off put because of the color but seeing how many of you look great in it and seeing outdoor pictures things changed.
Very nice and very outstanding.

I just picked one up but sadly it's gonna have to go back, XL too snug in the shoulders for me. Wonder how an XXL would be (whenever they're in stock, SB behind on orders iirc) — everywhere else fits me well but arms pretty immobilized.

@popvulture
You send it back?
