Wallets, Chains, and Reins

I'm currently using this Tanner Goods card holder. I can keep it in my front pocket and not worry about where it is.
Now this wallet... I love it, but sometimes it's a bit much to use. The Tanuki Shell Cordovan long wallet.
If I sit for a long period of time, I have to remove it from the back pocket.
I don't see myself ever getting rid of it. It's pretty rare you see a wallet made of shell cordovan inside and outside.
Despite what I've said about my long wallet, I have my eye on a Redmoon long wallet . Something to go along with my Y4 indigo invitational denim.
-
@iamjustdanny damn. That Tanuki is a beauty! I’m looking for a mid length wallet myself.

I like this OGL cardholder a lot, but the natural leather had a glaze or something on it and doesn’t seem to pick up oils like other veg tans I’ve had. I took a deglazer to it and it brought out some cool imperfections I couldn’t see before. Now I can see the cows vascular system. I like it. The stitching on one corner came out so I did a shit home fix. Should hold. Still really like this.

@WhiskeySandwich ah man that's interesting — I've got one of their belts in natural and have always thought the evo of it was a little boring because it's, like you say, treated with something. What's the stuff you used? Might do the same to my belt, wouldn't mind at all if it looked a bit more rugged.
-
@popvulture I used an old washcloth and scrubbed the hell out of it with this:
-
Afterwards I lubed it back up with some leather balm from Mr.Lentz. Have yet to see much coloring but it’s only been a few days. My Mr. Lentz leather stuff is awesome though. This wallet was the same color when new and darkened way faster after a couple months. This is like 3 years tho.
-
Hell yeah, I'm into it. My belt just seems almost plastic-y at the moment. Not that bad, but just like... looks too uniform to be leather.
-
@popvulture that’s how I felt about this wallet. I hope it works for both of us! Let me know how it turns out man

Here's a wallet I made for my brother:
It's fully handmade with shell cordovan from the japanese tannery "Leder Ogawa" as famous as Shinki Hikaku
-
@gouki74 wow that’s super nice. Do you produce these for sale? That’s a legit production piece!
-
@WhiskeySandwich It can be yes
-
@gouki74 where'd you learn leatherwork? I bought a book on it recently but haven't been good about diving in and starting to try stuff. Seems like a lot of fun. Main reason I got curious is because I can't find a leather bag I like, so figured I might as well learn some stuff and maybe one day be able to make one.
-
@popvulture I began 2 years ago by doing small things on my own and I made more and more difficult pieces until now.
Now i make bags, wallets, belts, for those who want to have special pieces because I don't like making the same stuff other and other...If you want or need tips or advice, send a DM, I'll be happy to help.

@gouki74 that's very cool — thank you!

Thank you guys!, The deglazing look amazing! Thank you for using them!
I'm Johnny from OGL, would like to take the opportunity to highlight the reason for us to have a strong coat polished on lighter leather color in our products.
Pre-2018, when we produce light color leather goods, we face some issue of customer complaining not receiving goods of color they ordered.... apparently the product color age quite a bit with causes it to have different tone.
Natural light color Veg tan like always, will aged when it's expose, non wrap or non covered, so in order for us to produce them in large qty, and maintaining the same color as the one shown in the picture on all partners website, we decided to add a strong top coat to slow the process of aging.
Hope our explanation helps!

@Scasi thank you for confirming! That is a very understandable design decision. I do love the wallet and the quality of the leather. I’m pleased with the results of using the deglazer and reconditioning it, but I get why people might complain about colors changing or inconsistencies.

I am looking to purchase a new braided wallet cord...anyone off the top of their head have a couple or few recommendations? I like natural veg tan but considering a black one too. I have been wearing one from Red Hills Co since the start of the pandemic and would like a freshy.
-
@Oaktavia I’ve been looking for a long time for one like yours from Red Hills. I saw somebody on Etsy making quality looking ones but ended up making my own. If I can find some real nice veg natural I could make you one. No promises but I could try as an experiment. Still trying to dial these in. I found a spot that has nice solid brass hardware selection. It’s tricky finding good leather in the right thickness.
-
@WhiskeySandwich right on dude, that looks nice! I'm kind of leaning towards a black one, especially after seeing Filthy rocking his.

Still rocking the OGL cardholder folder. My repair is holding up. Color is slightly coming in, but super slowly.
