IHJ-49 - Split Steer Modified Type III Jacket - Black or Brown
-
Thanks fellas. All this advice has been heeded and greatly appreciated. I came upon a deal on a new, black, size large I could not pass up. I’ve been waffling for the last couple weeks and finally pulled the trigger in the wee hours of the night.
(Keep yours eyes peeled on the buy/sell thread for some new closet clearing posts to balance the universe for this purchase)
I can’t wait to see what this jacket feels like in hand. I’ve read every post in this thread thrice! But I still feel like I’m going to be completely surprised once I put it on for myself.

@Mizmazzle I don't think so, or at least more than anything else that's black....the cowhide has a nice texture to it that might be more easily brushed off than something like suede.
But I don't have a furry dog to test this out with so someone may correct me!
-
@jackbrochill hey thanks man. I appreciate the feedback. How you liking your jacket? Can’t wait to get mine!!
-
@jackbrochill just noticed your selling yours in the buy/sell section.
-
@Mizmazzle Yes but only because I'm opting for the sheepskin which fits me and fits in with my wardrobe better. Though I now have them side by side and it's extremely hard to not envy the rugged/heft of the steer. One of the best made pieces of anything I've ever encountered.
As long as it fits you, you can't go wrong with either one.
-
@jackbrochill would it be too much to ask for a bit of a side by side comparison? How much lighter is the sheepskin?
-
Hard to illustrate without feeling them since the only difference really is the material (the sizing is ever so slightly different but I think mainly the sleeves are shorter on the sheep and then the other fit differences are just from the thickness/pliability of the material).
As you’ll see when you get your steer, it’s pretty beefy. Total tank that will last forever. The sheep skin is more akin to regular suede. Definitely well made and not something you need to baby but I don’t think it’s something I would be able to just absent mindedly wear without being conscious of taking care of it either. Whether that’s the rain, spilled drinks on a bar table, or dirt/grime.
The steer also has a bit more of a shape/structure to it due to the leather, whereas the suede will be softer/more like a shirt jacket in drape. I think the difference here is purely a matter of preference, with the steer definitely more befitting of the biker/trucker aesthetic. I also think the steer will soften and wear in quite a bit over time and only improve with age but the suede might just stay as is for better or worse.

@jackbrochill Great write up!! Thanks so much!!
-
@Mizmazzle It looks crazy good on you brother! I'm happy you like it. Wear it with pride my man
-
@Mizmazzle looks amazing mate
-
@Mizmazzle
I think you could even size down .
Sleeves are really long
you must be % happy with it bro -
@Daniel-San I hear ya. When I wear it over a regular shirt the body and shoulders are spot on. I wouldn’t want that to change. Over a tee it’s a bit over sized. But I’ll be wearing it over shirts most of the time. I’ll post some pics in a bit over a shirt/ UHF.
-
Agree with @Daniel-San and it looks like you could size down.
-
@Mizmazzle I’ve got the brown one and have not seen spots like that. Could it be a waterproofing spray that he applied?
-
@Mizmazzle
mate this looks definitely not brand new
would carefully try to wash it out
hope you can get rid of it
