@Daniel-San when they showed up they actually fit so perfectly without a soak I decided to take @alexswords advice and “wear em dry till they die” lol. The stiffness was brutal the first few days but they are already softening up and the creases have set in super strong and look incredible.
I plan on cold soaking them and hanging them in the sun if they ever need it in the future.
-
@CMcCartie wearing them dry is definitely a path that you can choose, but beware that if/when you do soak/wash them that they will shrink slightly. The biggest issue will be that the honeycombs will slightly shift at that point (possibly a 1/2 inch). This will give them a slightly hazy-esque appearance or cause them to start to form new creases/honeycombs which you may or may not like.
-
@goosehd I may be wrong but if I cold soak (not hot soak) I shouldn’t loose anything in the leg.
I talked with Graham about this and was told not soaking was fine since they are sanforised and if I did a (cold soak only) i wouldn’t loose anything in the leg but he may have been referring my fear of losing room in the thigh which is the main reason for me not soaking them lol.
Do you think a cold soak will shrink the inseam ? -
@CMcCartie I think with a cold soak that you will
be fine, but a hot soak and agitation that you will get some shrinkage (not a lot, but possibly 1/2”) in all dimensions. Any dimension under strain will stretch back out (waist), where the length will not.@Graham I am hoping that this is correct and that you can confirm?
Thanks!
-
@goosehd I appreciate your input! Definitely something I want to figure out now, instead of down the road when it could cause a bigger problem.
-
@CMcCartie @Graham or one of the IHUK crew will set us straight. I’m 98% sure that the advice is correct, but I would rather err on the side of caution than to give bad advice
They are a great fit and I hope that you have many happy years in them!
-
@CMcCartie Unfortunately as shrinkage is not an exact science it is really hard to put a definitive number on it but with a cold soak you are going to get a lot less to none compared to a warm of hot wash. I personally got about 0.5" shrinkage in the inseam at 30c so I can see one getting even less with cold water and no agitation. If you enjoy how they are out of the box you can keep rocking them if you don't want to soak them to soften them up.
-
@Graham, thanks for the reply!! And ya, I can definitely see how Shrinkage is different from case to case. But I’m not too worried, and I love how they fit and feel now, so I will go with the flow and keep ‘em dry!
If and when they need a bit of a refresh I’ll do my standard cold soak and sunshine hang/dry. It’s worked wonders for me and achieved some killer high-contrast fades!
Whatever shrinkage does or doesn’t occur, I’ll deal with it then, and I’ll keep the forum updated on this pair's journey……it will be a fun one!
-
@CMcCartie your journey brother! Enjoy it! I love my xhsib to death and although i did soak them i dig it you go in this one your own way
-
@CMcCartie Nice fit man! Just out of curiosity how much do you weigh and how tall are you?
-
@Supersonic 5’9 almost 5’10 and around 180-185, these are a 35 tag with a true waist of 35.7 and a thigh at 13.1, had to size up a bit since I have a relatively muscular build and needed the extra room in the thigh. But they fit perfectly with a belt.
-
@CMcCartie I always need the maximum possible shrinkage, especially on the thighs and knees and unless you immerse them in boiling water or in the washing machine at very high temperatures you won't get much shrinkage in these points, furthermore any minimal shrinkage you get will be lost in a couple of days of wearing, I have six pairs of XHS, the first two I soaked after a year, the other 4 after 2/3 days of wearing, honestly, from my little experience, soaking is not like that decisive in shrinkage but very useful in accelerating fading and wearing comfort, finally it seems to prevent premature "breakages" in the points of greatest pressure and in the cuffs.

I just got these in the mail yesterday. The waist was just a little big so I gave just the waistband a hot soak. That tightened things up perfectly. What a great fit. I bought these when they were first released in the different cut. I can’t remember what it was but I’m really glad they did it in the 555. Here is a horrible fit picture. I’ll have my wife take a better one later. Everyone is looking great in these!
-
@CMcCartie Sounds perfect brother, you are doing everything right. Enjoy the journey!
-
@deanclean looks like a great fit man !! Ive also been very happy with the fit on these 555s they are definitely slim, but with the thickness of the material and the way it creases and stacks they don’t come off as a “skinny jean“
-
@CMcCartie not only do they not come off as a skinny Jean, they don’t come off at all! Once I get them down to my calves it’s a battle haha.
-
@deanclean no pain no gain a wise man once said
-
@deanclean ya the first week is gonna consist of lots of little jumps and leg shakes to get those off, but as they break in it gets a bit easier (not much) .
-
@Twistlock they’re looking good!! Temps are on the rise here as well but i try to hold out as long as possible
