IHJ-133-BLK - 10oz TC Duck Modified Type III Jacket - Black

How rough is the canvas on these? Like similar to a denim one or softer? I bought the black moleskin version last year but have lost weight and it's too big now. This looks like a great replacement. I just never layer under my type 3s and hate rough, scratchy feeling on my arms.

Ironheart.co.uk product page calls this 65/35 polycotton and most of the retailers say it is 65 poly 35 cotton. That is different to how Bob Loblaw has put it in his question to you, so this might need to be cleared up. 65 cotton 35 poly is the far more common blend most people will know. Looking into Japanese ''Tetoron Cotton'' info it seems like it is 65% poly.

Waxing 65/35 polycotton would be very different to waxing 35/65 polycotton. If you used something like beeswax or paraffin as you might with a cotton canvas (instead of Nikwax or similar like you could use on synthetic fabric) it would need more frequent re-waxing and in the meantime the jacket is waxing whatever it comes in contact with. You'd be covering the whole garment and only a minority of the fibres would be absorbing the wax. Maybe not a fun project. Unlike nylon, polyester will hold very little water so it does have an advantage in rain in that way. A good canvas can stop you getting wet because of its weave and fibre content. The cotton fibres swell with water and lock to block rain from penetrating further, but you'll still see plenty of modern canvases with coatings that make that feature of the cotton weave redundant. Coatings reduce breathability which would already be compromised with the synthetic component, so you could get more dampness from the inside after waxing. Sometimes I carry an ultralight Japanese umbrella in the inside pocket of my truckers, it's not the least elegant solution.

Was a bit reluctant with these since I don't like the touch of anything containing too much polyester. But I needed - ahem - a lighter summer type III. Now, this thing feels very soft, the surface is nice and smooth. Weaving is dense, must be very durable. But still, it's light and seems to have a good breathability, will probably repel a light rain. I love it.
edit: and I wouldn't wax it

@endo looks really good on you
-
@endo that looks fantastic! I’ve been trying to stop myself buying the brown definitely not needed but so much want

it's #4 in my type III collection 🫢 but absolutely worth it
-
@endo the brown would also take me up to 4 does it feel noticeably lighter than the 14oz denim? I could maybe justify the brown if it’s a little lighter for warmer days

very much so, sorry but true, it does complement the collection well

Hey guys,
I just received this jacket. Terrific summer wight and construction! It's not thin material, and is pretty dense. Very nice. And lays well without being flimsy. I'll have the sleeves tailored to shorten them, but the sleeve opening and cuffs work for wearing watches, which is good. I really like the deep hand-warmer pockets and even better the deep and solid internal pockets. Well-done yet again, Alex and Teamd

Bad photos but great lightweight jacket. Went with the XXL and had the sleeves shortened and taken in a bit on the upper arms. My travel go-to this summer.

Can any one tell me if he feels any kind of inconvenience/uncomfortability wearing this undoubtedly sexy jacket yet made on two thirds of polyester? Tell me the naked truth please

@Yoprst I agree with @endo. I've been travelling all summer with only this jacket. Nice drape and tight weave. More impressive than I expected. Great for wearing on planes and can do anything else. Always looks cool and acts as lightweight armor. Handles with aplomb and doesn't chafe. Great addition to warmer weather, especially with those internal pockets to carry your wallet and phone or other gear.
