Jacques Marie Mage (JMM) - Sunglasses and Frames…

Many good points made throughout this latest discussion. I’ve found a minor salve for the price point shock is using insurance $/benefits for the purchase. Finding an in-network store can be tricky (I’ve called shops up & down the west coast) - but even the out of network benefits help. I have a few frames now and even my wife has one (well she took the Dealans I bought from @popvulture ). As a daily wearer of glasses I see JMMs as the only frames that hold their value.

@Inorganic thanks! I had to track these ones down all the way in Norway. The last brandnew pair I was able to find from this collection
-
@pechelman all the more reason to stay away, not to mention the be price points are wild
-
@Dchill I recently purchased some JMMs from Mori optical and even those were fake (and extremely good fakes). No box, no card, ever so slight differences here and there. I had thought that Mori was a reputable retailer, but it seems not…..Be careful & good luck.
-
@Inorganic fakes from a retailer? what is Mori optical?
-
@louisbosco they are an online retailer (https://morioptical.jp/) and the company looked legit - first hint that something was awry was the shipping from China, though they claim to be a Japanese retailer. I started to do some digging found reviews from customers that had also had received fake JMMs...I reached out to Mori and received a full refund but had to pay for the return shipping to China.. I went with Mori because they had the frames I was looking for and at a lower price (-$200 MSRP).....lesson learned

Living in LA I have the luxury of 20+ opticians/retailers so I will only purchase in store.
-
Check out Frederiksberg Optik at Gammel Kongevej 92, 1850 Frederiksberg. They have a good selection in there to check out.

Biggest mistake I ever made was going into that store last year. I was on holiday with the family in Copenhagen and visited the store. The missus spotted the price of JMM's and I was swiftly banned from buying a pair. No way round this now, just got to bite the bullet and take the flack if I buy a pair. Molino 55 seem to work well for me.
-
@Inorganic ahh right. I recently bought a pair from dover street market while in Japan. didn't see the model on JMM's website at all and was skeptical, but I guess dover street market is legit enough..

@JerkStore said in Jacques Marie Mage (JMM) - Sunglasses and Frames…:
Got the Lankaster back with my rx lenses. Really like this pair. Bonus pic of my wife’s Picabia.
Do you wear the Lankaster just as sunglasses or as "normal" glasses?
I was thinking about getting glasses with darker lenses like sunglasses to wear them.
But I'm not sure, how practical that is.Perhaps there are glasses that are not as dark as those of sunglasses.
-
@gakugeidg I wear them as in the pic above, sunglasses. I have the Mantua as my opticals (not on JMM website, but on optician sites).
-
@JerkStore I see.
Thanks for the reply.Any experience with wearing sunglasses all day like normal glasses?
Or possibly with lenses in between, like medium dark? -
@gakugeidg if i may hop on this one then i would advise self tinting glasses which will transfer dark when they get in contact with UV. In the long run it isn’t that good to wear sunglasses 24/7
-
@gakugeidg If you want to look like Jack Nicholson, it'll work fine. You can get transitions, but they won't be dark in the light.
I would get a very light sunglass lens if you want to go for that look.
