The Evolution of Iron Heart

@Oaktavia lol thanks bud! I find it interesting how different pairs react to the same treatment. Now that I've done a personal record of 100 wears - no wash, I probably wont bother setting a milestone like that again really, but I'll still keep counts and stuff and go for contrast. I just wanted to do a two-pair head to head for funsies.

@WhiskeySandwich That's where I am at with seeing how disgustingly far I can go without a wash with my most recent pair...I got up to 141 before I washed my XHS and I'm not sure if it was worth the grime and grossness. I think ~100 wears might be the sweet spot. I recall someone on here saying waiting too too long might actually hinder fades, whereas washing at a more reasonable time will help them along. I feel like with only one wash with my XHS, now up to 157 wears, they are darker in more areas compared to if I had, say 5-6 washes at this point. With that said, my XHSbb has been washed 9 times and look more overall faded and more further along-looking at 149 wears...I could go on and on about this lol
-
@Oaktavia it wouldn't bother me if you did lol I think as far as being involved in fading, aside from activity, wear counts and washing is the 'nuts and bolts' of the ordeal haha. There must be a sweet spot, which is a moving target per denim, where the max potential can be extracted per wash. Of course this is subjective as fuck, and depends on one's style. I love unwashed shiny denim, but I also love fresh-washed denim too. Like your XHS being dark or "still new" in some spots can create more contrast with the faded, high-wear spots, washing brings in the more natural look. I do think that no matter what, fades will happen with great results regardless of how much we care about it, so long as we don't wash them into muted oblivion.
-
@WhiskeySandwich yeah man for sure, well put. I think that we have pretty similar ambitions and philosophy with our denim as well as our taste for heavyweights. I think we are also after similar looking fades, so it's good to touch base and share notes. I dig it, dawgie.

@WhiskeySandwich great comparisons bud both pairs look

Some outdoor shots

@WhiskeySandwich man, the stack on the IBs is one of the most beautiful fades I've ever seen

They are a delight to wear and share

Got a couple fit shots of these two and a comparison with my new 21og

Since idk a better place to put this…More comparison shots for anyone curious. Indigo 21(left) vs 14oz. The “wale” on the denim is the biggest difference to the eye. Due to the tighter weave and less visible weft showing through, the 14 appears darker, which my camera didn’t pick up much of. These are both under 10 days wear. I really like both. The 14 is less breathable due to tighter weave but damned if it doesn’t wear cooler and easier. If you’ll take my word, it’s better for the heat hands down. But the 21oz does breathe slightly more, however it can weigh you down if it’s hot enough to sweat. Obviously, if you can’t decide- buy both and compare for yourself. You wouldn’t regret it.

So cool how symmetrical and similar the fades look between the two pairs @WhiskeySandwich
-
@WhiskeySandwich I have to say I completely agree and I am much preferring 14oz to 21oz on the warmer days, contrary to popular opinion here on the forum. I wouldn’t dispute that the 21oz is more breathable but just feel weighed down by it as you say. I’d be curious to see if anyone would pick a 21oz type 3 for summer over a 14oz
-
@DeeDee85 with my 19oz type 3 I run hot from 18-20 degrees celsius, but they seem to be less breathable than 21 oz... Had a 16 oz slb type 2 that was wearable in summer no problem up to 30 degrees...

@october-rust same cut on the same body, I guess… I just wear em and they do what they do. I have noticed that slight variations in measurements here and there alter the way they crease. Also noticed that every single pair of IH I have have an ever so slightly slimmer upper right thigh. Negligible effect, maybe due to the fifth pocket.

@DeeDee85 I'm still okay with rocking the 21oz during summer if i'm going to be mostly indoors, but if i had to spend the whole day outside, i'll take the 14oz. No way I'd wear a 21oz jacket in the summer. I barely wear a t-shirt when i'm outside in the summer. On some occasions when it's really hot, the sleeves on my tee shirts have been known to spontaneously fall off...
