I'm looking at the Wesco x The Shop short stack boss engineer boots and wondering if any one has this boot and can compare the sizing to the red wing classic chelsea or the mister lou? The recommendation is to size down 1/2 size, but want to hear others experiences who have this boot.
-
@bluemantra FYI, I’ve moved your topic here.
-
@bluemantra I would assume it is similar to the Lou but I would suggest to reach out to TJ from The Shop. He is very helpful and has plenty of experience with both, the Lou`s and the short stack.

This video was also helpful. Looks like low heel runs a 1/2 size larger. And TJ recommends sizing down 1/2 size from mister lou.
Now chromexcel or horse hide....Does chromexecl get to floppy with age compared to horse hide?

@SKT if you do order them, you should go custom! You’re going to have a wait on your hands (unless you’ve found a pair somewhere )
My wescos are custom fit and it’s incredible how perfect they feel on my feet.
I've thought about this, but have read some stories of it not working out which has me on the fence. I'm likely to do it incorrectly. Did you have someone do the tracings and measurements or did you do them yourself?
-
@bluemantra I had my wife do it for me. It came out great!! They fit absolutely perfect. They have a video you can watch to that helps take some of the guess work out of it all.
If you have the time and patience, I’d highly recommend the process.

@bluemantra FYI: Custom Wesco boots made to your measurements, currently have a 18-20 month window right now. I would buy them now If you find a pair of Wesco’s on sale in a size that you typically wear, or be prepared for a long wait.
-
The wait is more like 22 months, or at least it just was for me. I do like Wesco but I doubt I’ll order any more for a while until they can get their lead times under control. All my other pairs from them took 4-6 months but 2 years is just too long for me.
-
I’m about 3 months into the 2 year wait 🫠
-
@Palmer It seems pretty crazy to wait 2 years. Seems like it just keeps getting longer and not shorter.
-
I am have been waiting 13 months so far for my pair got a ways to go still.
-
I own nine pairs of Wesco's and arguably I do not need any more. That said, I am with @Palmer. While I do love Wesco boots, I can't see myself ordering a pair with the lead times they have now. I sent a pair back for a rebuild and it's been four months. In that same timeframe, I ordered a custom pair of White's Boots and received them in six weeks.
-
Anecdotally, I have an order in with Lofgren (June 2023) that still has not arrived (due January 2024), and placed an order with Zerrows (April 2024) not due until early next year.
From what I have read this appears to be the norm and not one off events. I think everyone is trying as hard as they can, but the capacity (equipment, manpowers, materials, etc.) is not there.
-
@Bums_Fan nine pairs, you baller!!!
-
@goosehd I see your point. But it seems wesco lead times are still a magnitude greater. I’m just getting into boots and 24+ months is a barrier.
-
@bluemantra There are many other great boot manufacturers out there. I have Vibergs, Zerrows, Trickers, and Lofgrens, that are all just as good as Wesco and most of them are all off the shelf builds. Unless you have a special needs foot wise, full custom builds are not needed.
-
@popvulture no doubt I have a problem!!!
-
@Bums_Fan my kind o problem
