Hello everyone, I am originally from Bulgaria, escaped the Communist regime back in the mid 80s lived in Hungary for 7-8 months until figure it out how to get in Austria, lived few years in Austria with few weeks been there in refugee camp as well until get my emigrant papers and apply in US embassy, got green card and in 89 late October arrived in Columbus OH. Got married in 97 and moved to L.A. Sunny California.
I collect ancient coin, vintage colognes and some watches. And I guess lately I got into this crazy and very addictive blue think.............................................
How I got here, well I am wearing mostly jeans since the 70s when as a kid got my first jean "Super Rifle" made in Italy back then as a Communist country it was very hard to get any kind of jeans in Bulgaria, it was only on the black market but you need to have connections to get to the black market.
So I always have few Levis, Lee, diesel, buffalo etc.......First time heard about Japanese denim last year as trying to buy another Levis when googled I found out about 150 years Levis anniversary made in japan so I got me Jacket and Jean made by Nigo and Levis and the rest is history.
I am now obsessed with this Japanese electric blue, I have seen when browsing a lot the name Denim Head. Am I becoming one myself now?
my favorites are:
Samurai - 6 jeans and 3 shirts
Iron Heart - 5 jeans, 4 denim shirts 3 UH flannels and 1 jacket
Naked and Famous - 12 jeans
Momotaro - 8 jeans, 6 shirts and 1 jacket
studio d'artisan - 5 jeans and 8 UH flannel, Denim and sashiko shirts
Oni - 8 jeans and 1 overall jacket
Sugar cane - 6 jeans
Stevenson Overall - 4 jeans and 1 jacket
Big John - 2 jeans and 1 jacket
PBJ - 2 jeans and 1 jaket
What are your favorites from the Japanese brands, but not from the popular ones is there any hidden gems from less popular brands that you can recommend?
here is some of what I have at the moment:
-
@peter4-ptv nice intro Peter!!! Welcome. You’ve found the right place.
-
great introduction @peter4-ptv thanks for sharing
I can't really answer your question, since I'm not so much familiar with other JP brands, but I do like some stuff from Loop & Weft, Double Helix and Zerrows that I got in touch with.

Welcome @peter4-ptv ! I live in Austin, TX. Aside from Iron Heart, which are my favorite jeans, I’m also a fan of Samurai’s 19oz, Momotaro, Sugar Cane, and I love the Real McCoy’s Lot.001XX denim. I didn’t see that last one on your list — it’s got a great texture and weight to it, not heavy like IH but a nice heftiness.
An interesting Japanese brand you might want to check out is Ooe Yofukuten. They’re very vintage-focused, so don’t expect super high contrast, electric fades, but it’s super cool that their jeans are only made by two people, a husband and wife team. The attention to detail is pretty amazing. The best (and really only, as far as I know) in the US is from Standard and Strange. Get on their mailing list and keep an eye out if you’re interested in getting a pair, because they sell out fast.
I also really like Indigofera and Freenote Cloth, a Swedish and an American company, who both use Japanese denim for their jeans. Cool companies, creative and unique in their own ways.
Welcome to the forum, have fun!

Hello all. New to the forum and Iron Heart brand. Canadian born and raised, but have resided in Austin, TX and now Eugene OR for the past 25 years. Recently started my IH journey with some IH-777S-19L. Alex ensured I got the size dialed in and after about 10 days living in them I was hooked. So much so I visited Self Edge in Portland this past weekend to try a different fit. Ended up with IH-633N-17 and a new shirt too IHSH-235-OLV. Next up will be to venture into the XHS - maybe in 777 - and the new Fox Flannels. Beyond that I can see adding ISH-398 and 397 when available. Thankfully I now reside in a climate that is conducive to these heavy fabrics.
This forum has been a wealth of information and have had some great reads. Even better the photos! So many with such style and great looks. I’m not much for social media posting but in the WAYWT thread I might even try to post a few photos.
