IH-634S-UHR - 21/23oz Raw Selvedge Denim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
I've had one of those When It Rains, It Pours weeks now. I missed the previous run and have regretted it since. So this restock and then the new 16oz OD, I had to score both. 634 is my cut though I love'm all (though 555 I regard as good for other people). I'm at the age where I feel confident these jeans will out live me. That's not a bad thing. Photos to follow.

Post Wash Update
This is my second pair of UHR---the first were 777 some years ago and they are pretty much perfect in fit and patina. I wanted then as I did now to get all the shrink and stuff out of them from the first, if that's possible. I washed them on the shortest hot cycle without a spin rinse and hung them dry. They shrank one full inch in the waist and two full inches in the inseam. I'm delighted with the result and it's just as expected. There was no marbling or untoward consequences to washing rather than soaking, so it seems. I hope this helps, but I'd just say that (as usual) Iron Heart's declarations regarding size and care are spot on. What IH said would happen is exactly how they turned out. I'm going to wear the crap outta' them now. -
@profdbrk How much did the thighs shrink?
-
@bluemantra , this pair started at 14.5 inches and after the hot wash they are now 13.5 in the thigh (measured the IH way). So about an inch. My overall fit is a bit on the loose side (I could fit a size smaller), but this is what I prefer, which means I tend not to stress stretch much at all. I hope this helps.

The 634 UHRs have such lovely fading that I thought I ought to break an unworn pair that I bought in December 2016. It took lots of tugging and a sore thumb before I could do up the top button, the waistband is so tight. However I managed in the end and they are comfortable to wear. I have put some Observer books in rear pockets to help stretch them out a bit.
-
@Chesson What is the difference between 634 UHR and 634S UHR, please?
-
@Jeansman I don’t think Chesson is with IH anymore. But to answer your question, the S means selvedge. All of the jeans on the IHUK site will be selvedge aside from a couple things like denim work pants and overalls, but if you find a pair of Iron Hearts on eBay or elsewhere, there’s a possibility they could be non-selvedge, as Japan does make some of the models without it. Not sure about UHR, but it’s possible. Or could simply be that someone forgot to include the S in a listing.
-
@popvulture thank you. I did wonder if Chesson had left IH.

I started wearing these on Monday. When they are on, they are lovely but getting the buttons done up is difficult as the waistband is tight at the front (not as much at the back) and is not pliable, though they have yet to see water (and won't for a while). I can't resist wearing them even though my thumbs hurt. I always worry about shrinkage but it has never stopped me wearing a pair - the tighter they are, the more they have to be worn.
-
Hoping they stretch for you--thighs look pretty snug for now. Show em who's Boss!

I have now worn these for most of the past 8 days. Before I put them on, I think for a moment about my sore thumb, but something compels me to wear them regardless. It is certainly much easier than it was a week ago, when I was thinking I would have to give up on them. It also helps to keep the bottom button done up when I take them off - one fewer to battle with when putting them back on again. I don't normally cuff, but I didn't want indigo on my Ons.

pulled the trigger on some 634s-uhr and i am beyond stoked on these!
the cuffs are huge, yes, but i dig the style. will likely get them hemmed at some point, but i love a big ol' rockabilly cuff.
since this forum was a huge help in finding the right fit for me, below are my pre and post soak/wash measurements done the IH way... (in inches with silly american fractions haha)

@indigo_nico perfect fit nico, and cuffs can always be dialed in as needed.
-
thanks @RubyRae! I'm on day 39 of daily wear and I love these more and more every day.
-
@indigo_nico My December 2016 edition UHRs are also on about 39 days of wear since I took the labels off and started to wear them in September. They have yet to see water apart from the odd raindrop. The darker photos are probably the truest colours.
-
@Jeansman hell yeah, bet you’re stoked they are finally seeing some action. did you skip the initial soak/wash? i’ve heard its necessary with UHR so the fibers set. mine stretched back to pre-soak measurements in the waist pretty quickly and are legit perfect now. i haven’t done any wash besides the initial yet, but will likely sometime after day 60 or so. looking forward to seeing the fades!
-
@indigo_nico yes: I always wear them raw for a few weeks and will them wash them for the first time. @Giles will say you need to soak them before wearing to avoid damage to the constructional stitching as the coarse fabric can cut the stitches which need to bed in. Personally, I have never had the problem.
