IHJ-49 - Split Steer Modified Type III Jacket - Black or Brown

@Mizmazzle said in IHJ-49 - Split Steer Modified Type III Jacket - Black or Brown:
Just dropped off my jacket to the local furrier. This guy has been around forever in my town. As soon as I set it on his table he was like, “wow, this is split cow! This is really heavy and will last the rest of your life!” He was impressed with the jacket.
He’s going to take 1.75” off the cuff end and maintain the length of the side cuff split. Feel a lot better about approaching it this way versus altering from the shoulder.
Get it back next week…stay tuned.
I mean….
@tody he took off 1.75”…which is nuts. The sleeves still look just a tad long in the pics, but once I lift my arm just a little they come up quickly. Driving etc. they are well above the wrist. So the length functions perfectly.
@ARNC that’s a great question about the scraps. I was kind of thinking about doing some water tests on at least one scrap. See how the split steer holds up to rain and sun etc. Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks Guys.
Against some sound constructive advice, think I'm goin to try the smaller Large Size first as pretty uncomfortable entrusting someone in my vicinity to make a Professional job of shortening the sleeves on the XL.
It may work for me as I very seldom ever fasten a type3 Denim Jacket and this may be be similar.
Cheers.

@M800sct1 yeah man. I had the sleeves shortened. It was really easy and came out great. Can’t tell they were altered at all. It cost me about $70 if I recall. I took it to a furrier to have it done.
I detailed the whole experience pretty thoroughly in this thread. If you go back not too far you can read all about it.

Thankyou Miizmazzle.
Looked back on the thread and saw your postings and comments.
Goin to try the smaller Large as opposed to the XL first I think.
If the other measurements work for me in the Large I may not require to get the sleeves altered whereas the XL would definitely need them altered.
I'm not convinced that I would be able to find someone locally that would make a decent job of shortening the sleeves for me.
Thanks Again.

@M800sct1 It's one hell of a jacket. Hope you get it all sorted. Let me know if I can help with anything specific.
I was able to get mine sized so that it works great as both a layering piece as well as just over a tee (though it is a bit oversized with just a tee but totally doable still) -

This jacket is the shit!!
Wow that look is awesome!
BTW, what boots are those? They are perfectly in place with the rugged but refined feel. -
@Mizmazzle What is your typical sleeve length?
I wear a L in virtually all of my IH shirts, so I'm thinking I want a L in this jacket. The sleeve length is pretty crazy, though. I have kinda long arms, so maybe the L will work. Even the Medium has a long sleeve length, but for me, a little too long is better than a sleeve that rides up when you reach across a table. Thanks!
-
@singletrack Hey man. My prefered sleeve length is 25.5 give or take...
The sleeves on my split steer were really long, and you're right, they are long across all sizes on this jacket. I had my sleeves shortened because they were just way too long for my preference. After I had them altered, the jacket was absolute perfection. -
@Mizmazzle Well, I'm about where you are. 25-26" (or 34" in a dress shirt) is my general sleeve length. I'll have to think on this one and see if we have someone local that I would trust to alter. Thanks for the quick reply!

@singletrack If you're curious you can read back in this thread a ways..I documented the whole journey of getting the jacket and finding a furrier to do the alteration.

I got to see these at Self Edge the other day. They are beautiful! And the leather is so soft. What a jacket!
-
@Danimal506 Its so rock and roll badass!
-
strange , I had the black one too and no transfer at all ….
-
@Daniel-San it’s really bad.
-
@seawolf I had the same problem, don't wear anything white and give your skin that touches it a good wash afterwards. I was left with a very black neck line ,apart from that it is an amazing jacket enjoy.
-
Can't help there I've only worn it three times I have a lot of jackets.
-
Mine shed some dye when I first got it onto a white tee...but didn't notice much more transfer after that...though I never wore another white shirt with it since.
Granted, mine was lightly used when I bought it, so hard to say exactly how much wear was required for it to stop. I've worn mine a bunch at this point and haven't noticed any transfer of dye for quite a while now....
Also, the tanning, chemical smell from the leather is 95% gone.
