On the subject of TV, I refuse to start any new 'Netflix Original' TV shows until it's all wrapped up and has reached a satisfying conclusion because of their track record of bailing on shit after a couple of seasons.
Nothing worse than really getting into something, then finding out they've scrapped it because it only achieved 85% of it's projected viewership numbers...

@seawolf - I listened to Kid A again this morning, and I’d still take pretty much every other album of theirs (except Amnesiac) over it. I know it’s supposed to genre defining, but I just cannot get into it despite trying for a number of years.

Game of Thrones went downhill quite badly as soon as they ran out of source material. The last season was an entirely new level of bad. Off the top of my head I can’t think of another show with such a drastic drop in quality.
Truer words have not been spoken. Hold the door was the last time we experienced the brilliance of George Martin and it was on its last leg leading up to this.

@Nocturama it really is a piece of art. And much like most pieces of art, will not register w everyone… and nothing wrong with having bad musical taste
-
Also, maybe try giving it a listen as you’re winding down your day. Used to listen to Kid A before going to sleep… so good
-
@flannel-slut that begs the question: how long did it take you to fall asleep?
-
@Tago-Mago great point. Rarely stayed awake past “Everything in its Right Place”… rest of the album is trash for all I know
-
Speaking of Kid A, check out the cover of Kid A by Punch Brothers if you’ve never heard it.
Mandolin, violin, upright bass, banjo, acoustic guitar
-
Couple other things @chrisjohnnick i get passing on a lot of the shows you mentioned but I would definitely watch Mad Men. It’s great from the jump. And I think worth the watch
@GraemeE I loved Travis and The Man Who back in the day. Need to listen to Elbow apparently
-
@GraemeE I've never listened to Radiohead. Outside of hearing them on the actual radio growing up and riding the bus to school. I never understood the hype.
-
@GardenState totally understandable if you’re getting Radiohead via the radio (the irony!). This would leave you mostly exposed to songs like creep. feel much of the same can be said for Bowie, my favorite work of his not being mainstream.
All that is being said for Kid A also applies to Bowies “Low” IMOP
-
the Bends is very much the sound of the 90s, whereas the time period Kid A encapsulates just hasn't happened yet
-
@flannel-slut Yep, Creep was the song I am/was familiar with. I was small when that album released and by the time I was buying my own music it didn't align with what I liked at the moment.
Ironically doesn't Radiohead hate the song "Creep". Something about them loathing performing it.

Great way to put it
-
Oh, Kid A - such a boring, uninspiring and predictable record from a mediocre band that i just cant say anything positive about. On the other hand i really dont mind other people loving it, i just miss it somehow, same as pearl jam, rhcp and all nu metal nonsense

Happy Days. Literally where the phrase "jumping the shark" came from.
