IH-777S-SLB - 16oz Slubby Selvedge Denim Slim Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
My first post here. I am new to Selvedge Denim.
Recently ordered a pair of NF online that arrived and were too small. Rather than just send back and forth decided to take a 2-1/2 hr drive to Chicago, MildBlend, and try on a few different styles, sizes and brands to figure out what fits me the best. No real options for buying selvedge Denim products except online and the returns are a hassle.
I was looking to get fitted in NF and IH. I did find my style and size in both manufacturers.
I walked out of the store with a 2 pairs of NF denims, 20 oz. and 16 oz., and a mission to find a pair of the IH slubby's in my style and size. The IH 777S style fits me the best.
Today I found a pair on line and pulled the trigger, IH 777S-Slub 36.The NF and IH seem to fit well but I am most stoked about the IH and the forum here. The prospect of having a forum to share experiences, wear jeans that fit well and will form to my shape is very appealing to me.
Thanks to all here that are sharing their passion.
Now to figure out what to do about break in and washing.....

@Luscombe welcome my man! Let your IH journey begin

@Luscombe welcome! From what I hear you shouldn't have too much of an issue breaking in the slubbies, but as for washing... prepare to encounter myriad tips and tricks as you venture down our beloved indigo rabbit hole...
General consensus here seems to be:
Soak first
Turn inside out
Wash at 30/40c with low spin (no spin on first wash)
Hang to dryBut don't overthink it, enjoy the process and do whatever feels right for you!

Thanks for the tip @T4920.
I am wearing the 20 oz now and will soak and wash them this evening. They have a 2% stretch material in the denim and fit pretty snug in all the right places. I am ok with the shrinking a bit if the waist will stay or stretch back to the current size. Was just notified that my IH's have shipped.
BTW, I am no youngster so this is a bit of an adventure for me to explore selvedge denim. I really appreciate high quality products that improve with age.
Kinda like me.......at least that is what my wife says.

@Luscombe Are the 20oz the Elephant XI Grandrelle Stretch?
I have a pair of the Elephant 9s that were my first heavyweight denim, they're lovely but don't get much wear nowadays.. normally pull them out during summer as they are cuffed super high and look great with sandals.
I'm glad you're still taking on new adventures, I bought my first pair of selvedge jeans in 2008, and although my interest and devotion to denim has fluctuated over the years, I am certain it will be part of my life for decades to come.
This forum is the best place to delve deeper into it all, and has increased my appreciation for the the craft tenfold since joining last year.
Great to have you here!

@Luscombe beware.. the forum and this community is the best but not so best for the wallet

I love spring and summer.. everything blossoms and pops so beautifully.

For those who own these, is it safe to say, the waist will stretch out one inch approx after some wear? I found a pair that's 1 inch tighter than my ideal waist size and want to ask before purchase. Thanks, all.
-
@goosehd Thank you for your help! It will be a brand new pair. Im a 32.5'' measured waist (good and comfortable), and I found a pair online in a size 31'' (websites say it's anywhere between 31 to 32'' laid flat). Returns aren't possible. Would be an expensive mistake if it doesnt fit.
Was looking for reassurance from real world wearers.

@Matt Thanks, Matt. Very helpful. I'm gonna hem them as I'm short and 36'' length would look too sloppy for me.
-
@stichdown-shell if it helps, my 555 skinny’s stretched more than any other pair I’ve owned.
