Unfortunately my camera broke (film, not digital). I took a picture and the shutter just never released. It is just stuck on the top >:| waste of $50

Hi all,
I was thinking of getting myself a new camera, I've been looking at the Canon S95, I'm certainly no expert so am just looking to upgrade from the cheap point and shoot Samsung that I currently own. So what I wanted to know is there any other cameras in the same price range that I should be considering or you would recommend? I'm just looking for a decent point and shoot nothing too technical and I don't want the hassle of a DSLR.
Any suggestions would be greatfully received. -
D97x7, I highly recommend the S95. It's perfect for what you are looking for in my opinion.

Just picked up a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens. Should be here some time next week!
Cool/fun Lens….I had/sold it twice, I want a 1.4.
One of the first shots I snapped with a 50mm when I had my Canon Xti.........

A compact I wanna buy is the Sigma DP2…. Stunning image quality, APS-C sensor, tack sharp, but not very user friendly menus and not much automation either. Consensus is, you should be familiar with f-stops and exposure when buying this. But it is an interesting option, on german Ebay these can be had for about 250 Euros, if you are willing to go for an older non-S or non-X model.
You won't find many favorable reviews, because it's lacks in many departments that other compacts excel in. It's a love it or hate it camera, it seems:

Probably not the best for you. D97x7, but maybe you got a thing for quirky cameras.

Trying my best to see if early Sept for the UK will work…...

Great picture there babyknight! Whats your setup?
-
thanks, laxlife.
I used a Canon 7D with the Canon EF-S 17-55m lens, shooting in RAW. Av priority and aperture at f/6.3 with a slight overexposure setting. The picture was taken in the evening when the light tends to work a bit better for landscape shots. Had to do some work on the highlights in post-processing to get the clouds to stand out.
-
Ah, yeah raw gives better access to more light. I think the image looks great though it seems to resemble an HDR photo, but it also doesn't at the same time.
That lens seems to take some good landscape shots though! Looking forward to more pictures!
