IHSB-BIGBUCK-OLV - Deerskin Western Shirt The Big Buck - Olive
-
Could any of you fine clothed gentlemen advise on the fit of this beautiful garment? I’m a pretty solid XXL across the board for IH shirts which gives me the sleeve length I need and a relaxed (but not too relaxed) fit.
From the images on here I’m guessing most wear it as you would another shirt (rather than oversizing and using as a top layer).
Assuming there is a nice smell with this too? -
I’ve noticed the smell, do you think it will go away? My black one doesn’t seem to have it as much
-
Restocked, it appears.
-
-
I stuck with my normal iron heart sizing for shirts as well. The shirt has a good weight and warmth to it. My olive does not have a smell to it
-
@marco23d yup my olive has a strange scent, the black doesn't
-
Just curious, these holes appear to be in the item I am looking at purchasing. Should they affect the shirt's integrity, or are they just superficial, from those who have seen such holes?
Thank you.
-
@indigostiff It is the nature of the animal and declared so in the first post of this thread:
“The leather used on this shirt is made of hides from deers living in the woods and mountains of Germany and Austria. They are not kept as livestock or in barns like cows, they run free through the woods and hills. Many of the hides will show scars which are a byproduct of the antlered males fighting with one another during the rutting season.”
-
…also to add:
@Giles said in IHSB-BIGBUCK-BLK - Black Deerskin Western Shirt - The Big Buck:
This is what we say on the product page:
There is scarring to the hides, we try to avoid as much as we can, but there may be small imperfections in the hide - if you can't embrace the perfection-is-in-the-imperfections, then this shirt is not for you
-
@goosehd No, I get scars. But holes is a different level.
-
@indigostiff I think you have the answer then…it’s the nature of the animal. You can keep waiting on a hide that is less scared, but the beauty of Wabi Sabi is the acceptance of the perfection is in the imperfection.
-
@goosehd Thank you. My issue is the small current holes becoming future larger holes. That's an issue. My black one has none of these, so perhaps I'll wait -- or see if Rain can darn the holes - but that may become $$$.
-
@indigostiff To be honest, I don’t think that you’ll be happy if you purchase that shirt. If you already have these kind of questions, ultimatley you will be biased in your attitude towards the shirt which will affect your overall happiness in the long run.
I would suggest waiting…
Just my honest $.02
-
And we have more coming, @indigostiff
-
…and to add to the other side of the equation: I think it’s beautiful as is and shows how the animal lived. In this world, people will go out of their way to hide the marks of imperfection versus enjoying them for what they are. Leather is a natural thing as is our skin. We use Botox, fillers, plastic surgery, dyes, and god knows what else to try and hide what happens to us so that we stay young and beautiful forever.
I for one, accept that I’m not the fastest, smartest, or most handsome one out there and am happy with what/who I am (as is) with all of my imperfections.
-
@goosehd I agree. I am all for battle scars - just not holes.
-
Hi @goosehd just curious if you found the big buck to shrink at all based on your careful washing approach that you outlined? Sorry if you’ve already said and I missed it.
