Denim - The Details
-
warning, denim geek pic heavy
so over in the SExIH13 thread we got into a little discussion about the denim and I decided to take some pics to try to illustrate color and compare the 13 denim vs other IH denims. I got a little carried away. Anyway here we goes.from L to R:
superblack
21oz (basically new)
07bk (19oz) lightly worn never washed
OG 21oz OD (circa ~ 2006) lightly worn never washed
sexih07 (19oz) soaked lightly worn never washed
sexih13 (23oz) a week old never soaked
here are the 3 indigo jeans sexih07, 634s, sexih13
the 07 and 21oz denims are a similar shade of dark indigo, the 07 slightly darker and the weave slightly tighter and less regular. the 13 denim however is much darker and tighter with noticeably less visible weft fibers, lending to the darker color, along with the more heavily saturated fat warp threadsmore example pics with regards to the tightness of the weave. similar look between 19oz and 21oz, 23oz very different
07
634s
13
and some super macros, check the difference with regard to the amount of visible weft and the appearance of the warp and weft threads. On the 23oz denim some of the weft threads even look dark, like the indigo from the warp threads has bled onto the adjacent weft threads. It's some amazing denim
634s
sexih13
now with regard to the OD denims, it is interesting to see the significant difference in appearance between the two. The newer OD is noticeably darker, more even in tone, a more saturated nearly-black color, where the older OD has more of a dark gray muted cast but not so dark, and a subtle splotchiness to the color. The newer OD weft fibers look black. The older OD weft fibers seen through the face of the denim do not look black.
07bk (301s-07bk to be exact) on the left, old 634sb on the right
and a pic with superblack for added color reference (kinda purply looking from the digi sensor)
the two OD denims are pretty similar looking, basically black, on the inside, the older one slightly lighter, but they do fade differently, the newer OD fades with a bit more of an almost silverish sheen in high friction areas, the older OD just loses color a bit more similar to a regular indigo jean
634sb
07bk
Last, comparison between the old OD 634sb denim and the new sexih13 denim, since that was part of our discussion in the sexih13 thread
13 on the left, 634sb on the right
and the face of the denims

634sb
in the end they don't really look that similar. In fact, they're all different; all the more reason to own them all. Variety is the spice of life.

Oh and I looked around for a more appropriate thread to put that in but couldn't really find any, mods feel free to relocate
Definitely deserves it's own thread. Great stuff Jaco. Can't wait to see what else starts popping up.

i do love you jaco. great shots & thanks for dumbing it down for me so i can follow along

Very very cool Jaco, well done and thanks!

Well it's been in just about every other thread I can stick it in, so I'll stick it here as well:

The 18oz raw denim is designed to be hairy and slubby, that is why they fade with such great contrast. The hairiness will disappear with abuse….
Thank you!
