Doha

Took @goosehd advice and started a thread for Doha. Granted it’s mainly a stopover destination, and not on the list for many people. Maybe in future, someone here might consider a stopover holiday Qatar Airways offer. I picked a couple days stop over option on the way back from the IH party to have a peek at what Doha is like.
Landed late at night and spent the morning laying in. Headed out to a place near Villaggio mall where the Khalifa International stadium hosted the World Cup. Then headed out to Souq Waqif to see what the local markets are like

Old Ferrari? I’m having a hard time finding info on it. Any idea on year and model?

@Giles Thank you! I was guessing the Datsun was a 240 and reminded me of my dad’s. His was destroyed by a tire/wheel that had come off an oncoming car that was put on by a local garage who forgot to tighten the lug nuts. The wheel came straight up the middle of the car and landed in the passenger seat.
I still miss that car.

Second day around the world, I mean Doha. Went nearby to Qanat quarters then up to Lusail and back down to the katara cultural village of which I think most of it are close at this time.
It’s amazing how they’ve imported the world here. One moment I’m in Venice and the next France.

@louisbosco Safe travels!! What are your thoughts on Doha? Visit again, things to avoid, places to see..

#1 on that list is NOT TO bring any alcohol (duty free or otherwise) into Doha.
Bought a Yamazaki 12 years, which are hard to come by these days when I left Singapore. Unfortunately I didn’t realise the laws of Doha until I was about to leave the UK. They have detectors for alcohol, being my guess, much worse than scanners where you put your bag through, that will call you out for it. Ended up having to give it up even though I was there for a very short time!
On a positive note, Doha is about its artificial islands and mall culture. The malls here are designed very beautifully from an architectural perspective.
Also if I had more time, I would go out to the sand dunes or out into proper desert.

@louisbosco Sorry to hear that as I can imagine it was a great bottle and interesting that they will not let a traveller carry one through and/or ship it to a destination versus confiscation.
How are the prices there? It looks like everything would be fairly expensive and maybe more than other areas that travellers would typically visit/layover in.
Another thing I noticed is that in many of your pictures, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of people. Is it busy there?
