Watches - another OCD problem
-
The Leroy is interesting for two reasons:
-
The case and movement are aluminium. This isn't a common choice for watches, in fact the only other timepieces I know of are the FP Journe Octa Sport and Centigraphe Sport, and these have moved onto titanium cases for the latest versions.
-
It's an observatory chronometer movement. That means it's about as accurate as a mechanical timepiece can be.
There's an article at Monochrome Watches about it. Worth a look if you fancy nerding out.
I'd better get saving…

There are one or two pieces that I'd be tempted by, the Hermes in particular. (Yeah, I know, there goes my WIS card.)
I reckon it might be worth following the auction, though. If you look at the results for 2011 and 2013 then there were some pieces that went for less than a standard model at retail. The LUC from 2013 springs to mind.

Here's another interview with William Gibson, this time on watches.
http://www.watchpaper.com/2015/07/16/william-gibson-on-watches/
"Today, there’s no specific need for a mechanical watch, unless you’re worried about timekeeping in the wake of an Electromagnetic Pulse attack."
He's also got a Jaeger LeCoultre Mark XI. That's probably my favourite vintage watch, and I've been keeping an eye open for one for a while. They're a bit rare…

Congrats Flash, it is a great watch.
-
You're going to love this one @Flash. As I said when we met, every time I look down at my Black Bay I get a little fuzzy inside! It's a really nice watch.
-
congratulations on your new addition @Flash .
-
Even though it looks like nearly all of you guys here have at least two of those, I still share a picture of a present which I made myself to my 30th birthday:
So far I'am very pleased but the fit - this is just ok.. I might get the bracelet shortened by one link and also have one half link put in for a better fit. We'll see if this improves the fit.

@SimonQ. Great modern Rolex ! I like the slimmed down lugs compared to the Maxi case.
Been looking for a modern Rolex myself as a day to day wear. I tried the 114060 Non date Sub-C and the 116600 SD4C, both lovely but I found the SubC more comfortable. I am sure I would be very happy with either model.
If I picked up an 114060 I have found a competent person willing to put a bevel on the Maxi case lugs. I thought this mod may make the transition from the Maxi case lug into the bracelet look a bit more streamlined.
The LV Ceramic Hulk sub is also an interesting watch, the pictures don't do it justice, much better in real life than in pictures. The sunburst green dial is either very green in direct light or close to black in muted lighting. Too many good options!

@SimonQ. that's a beautiful watch. congrats mate.
@ddtrash mate. i honestly wouldn't mod or f**k around with a rolex. it'll just affect it's value. that being said. you've got quite a few good choices there. my personal fav would be the lv ceramic hulk. though given that over the 16610lv kermit. kermit wins.
