DIY Shoe Repair
-
Hey Guys,
I found my old wore out pair of Indy boots in the closet the day. They were in need of a good resole, and not being happy with the factory ones, I figured i'd give it a shot. I'm gonna put leather soles on them with a stacked leather heel and vibram half soles. Should be pretty beefy when finished.
Before:
First step was removing the heels. I pretty much just praised them off with a flat head screw driver.
After that, I slid a razor blade between the neoprene sole and the welt. I cut the stitching all around the shoe and pulled off the sole. (there was also about 10 nails in the heel of each sole)
Here's a look at the leather between the welt and the sole. Shaped nicely to my foot:
I then pulled the welt stitching out of the welt and conditioned the welt with Montana Pitch Blend.
Just waiting for the soles to arrive. Will update when they do.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Soles came in today.

Goofy looking hand stitching:
Looks good from the top:

Hope heels come soon!
Will grind everything flush and clean them up.

Thanks finn. They're glued too.

No heels today. Got the left boot going and cleaned them up a little

All my heel stuff arrived today. I bought some old WWII NOS heel segments and used some recycled tire flooring for part of the heel. Softer than shoe rubber, very comfy. Not really any progress photos, Glued everything together and nailed them to the shoe:
All in all, It was an awesome experience. I'm happy with how the boots turned out and am glad I was able to give them life again. Thanks again for the encouragement!
